After Being Stripped, Brandon Halsey Returns at Bellator 144 to Get His Belt Back

While he has run into some difficulties in 2015, former Bellator middleweight champion Brandon “Bull” Halsey is still pleased with his year so far.

In his one bout this year, Halsey failed to make weight in his title defense against Kendall Grove in May, and thus was stripped of his title. Still, he was able to get the win and feels the bout was a good sign of his continued development.

“I’m pretty satisfied by my year so far,” said Halsey. “I got the finish in the first round, and that’s what I’m looking to do each time is to make a statement. I fought through some challenges, got the W and am moving forward.

“Every fight I try to take something and try to build on it and better myself every time I step in the cage. I took a few things from the last fight; obviously the weight cut, dealing with injuries, and rolling with those challenges. I just take what I can from that and try to win.”

Halsey feels he’s not hindered by the events leading up to the bout with Grove, and is ready to move forward knowing he’s got this experience to draw on if need be in the future.

“It was definitely a rocky road, but I learned from it, and you can only get better learning from your mistakes,” Halsey told MMAWeekly.com.

Halsey (9-0) will look to regain his 185-pound Bellator title on Friday in Uncasville, Conn., when he takes on Rafael Carvalho (11-1) in the evening’s main event.

“I plan on basically running through him in every aspect of the fight,” said Halsey of facing Carvalho. “On the feet, on the ground, anywhere the fight goes I want to be an unstoppable object. I don’t feel like anybody can stop me.”

While regaining his title is important, for Halsey, impressing upon people that he’s one of the best fighters in the world, regardless of promotion or championships, is what he strives for.

“Every time I get a win, it’s not just about winning, but doing it in dominant fashion and making a statement,” said Halsey. “I want people to think that I’m unreal and I’m doing things that they don’t see.

“That’s what I plan on doing every single fight. Just adding something new each time and make the fans and people in the MMA community think that I’m unstoppable and can’t be beat.”
