Beavers fall on the road to Grizzlies

Mar. 28—The Tenino boys soccer team lost its fifth consecutive game on Thursday, as the Beavers lost in a road league matchup against Hoquiam 8-1.

After a red card was handed out in the opening minutes, the Beavers (1-6, 1-5 1A Evergreen) were forced to play a man down, and the Grizzlies took advantage.

Tenino's lone goal came right out of halftime, when a shot off the foot of Kaiden Lindholm found the back of the net. It was the Beavers' first goal since a win over Ilwaco on March 15.

Tenino coach Trevor Fetbrandt was proud of the way they continued to battle despite the early adversity and the scoreline.

"They really competed," Fetbrandt said. "They kept their heads up ... All things considered, it's still a step in a good direction for us."

Chase Stiltner got the start in net and made three saves, and in the 72nd minute, he was subbed out for Ross Kershaw.

Kershaw, normally a midfielder and defender, faced a sudden barrage of shots, making five saves in the final eight minutes of the game.

The Beavers are back home on the black turf on Friday against Forks.
