Bears LG Teven Jenkins has legitimate chance to play vs. Commanders

The Chicago Bears will battle the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football, and it sounds like they could be getting back a key contributor on the offensive line.

Left guard Teven Jenkins was designated to return from injured reserve this week, opening a three-week window for him to return after battling a calf injury.

Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy was asked if Jenkins has a legitimate chance to play Thursday against the Commanders, and he assumes there is a real chance Jenkins is ready to go.

Getsy added they’ll continue to evaluate Jenkins as the next two days progress.

“We got some good work in through camp with him on the left side,” Getsy said. “We’re excited to see him go. We’ll see how far he can go. … We’ll see how the next day or two goes and then we’ll just take it from there.”

It’s certainly an encouraging sign that Jenkins has been a full participant during practice on Monday and Tuesday.

When Jenkins does indeed return, the Bears will get back their best offensive lineman from last season. It’ll be a huge boost along the interior, and the assumption is Cody Whitehair would move back to center with Jenkins at left guard.
