BB PREVIEWS: Logan hosts McC, visits Lewis Cass this weekend

Jan. 12—Logansport hosts McCutcheon tonight and due to inclement weather in the forecast the start time has been moved up an hour.

The JV game will now tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at approximately 6:30.

The Berries (6-6, 0-3 NCC) are coming off a good weekend of basketball, when they played right with Class 4A No. 10 Kokomo for more than three quarters of the contest. The Berries turned around and overcame tired legs to record their first win at Western since 2018.

They're facing a McCutcheon team (1-10, 0-3) that has played in several close games this year but has just one win against Covington on Dec. 9. The Mavericks are coming off a 13-point loss to undefeated and No. 11-ranked Richmond.

"Don't let their record fool you, McCucheon's a very good team," Logan coach Matt Lange said. "Their losses are to very good opponents. They're going to be good. We'll have to play really hard to get the outcome we want."

The Berries won last year's meeting in Lafayette. This will be the final conference game between the teams in the foreseeable future.

Logansport travels to Lewis Cass Saturday night for a rematch from the Cass County championship the Berries won 49-48 on Dec. 1. The Kings have won the last two meetings in Walton and four of the last five.

"Lewis Cass is a great team," Lange said. "It'll be a Saturday after we both played on Friday night. Hopefully we can go over there and play our best."

The Berries have three players averaging in double figures, led by Jacob Taylor's 12.9 ppg. Chris Del Valle is averaging 11.5 ppg and Isaac Russell is averaging 10.6 ppg.

ROCHESTER (4-5, 2-0 TRC) AT CASS (3-7, 0-4)

Cass hosts Rochester for a Three Rivers Conference game.

The Kings are still in search of their first TRC win. They're facing a Zebras team that has league wins over Whitko and North Miami.

Cass coach Eric Branz was not happy with the Kings' effort on either end of the court in their 46-32 loss at Northfield last weekend.

LJ Hillis is averaging 13.1 ppg and 5.1 rpg to lead the Kings.

The Zebras have three players averaging in double figures, Drew Bowers (14 ppg), Owen Prater (10.9 ppg) and Tanner Reinartz (10 ppg).

Cass hosts Logansport Saturday night.

DEMOTTE CHRISTIAN (5-5) AT PIONEER (3-8)

Pioneer hosts DeMotte Christian for a nonconference game tonight.

The Panthers are coming off a weekend split with Frontier and Faith Christian.

DeMotte had a 20-point win at Tri-County last weekend.

The last meeting between the two schools was a 64-62 win on a putback basket at the buzzer by DeMotte — formerly Covenant Christian — in a 2019 sectional final. Pioneer won a 2016 sectional matchup.

Pioneer hosts Carroll (7-3) Saturday night.

NORTH JUDSON (8-2, 1-1 HNAC) AT WINAMAC (5-7, 0-4)

Winamac hosts Class 2A No. 13 North Judson for a conference game.

It's been an up and down season for the Warriors but they're coming off a 45-33 win over Northfield on Tuesday.

The Bluejays are coming off their first conference loss of the season against LaVille last weekend. The Jays' only other loss this year was to Class A No. 11 Morgan Township.

Winamac hosts Oregon-Davis (2-8) Saturday night.

WEST CENTRAL (2-8) AT CASTON (4-6), SAT.

The Comets have the night off tonight as their No. 1-ranked girls team hosts senior night.

The Caston boys return to action Saturday night when they host West Central.

The Comets are coming off a weekend split with Culver and Delphi.

They're facing a Trojans team that was swept by North Newton and Oregon-Davis in a pair of close games last weekend.
