Baxter boys rout Meskwaki Settlement, North Tama to stay unbeaten

Dec. 15—MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — Four Bolts scored in double-figures and Treyton Travis had another 30-point game as the Baxter boys' basketball team cruised past Meskwaki Settlement School on Tuesday.

The Bolts held the Warriors to 10 or fewer points in all four quarters and nearly reached triple digits during a 95-33 road win in Iowa Star Conference South Division play.

Baxter stayed unbeaten after outscoring the Warriors 32-8 in the first and 23-9 in the second. The Bolts won the second half 40-16.

Travis led the way with 35 points, four rebounds and two steals and Perrin Sulzle's double-double featured 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Cainan Travis added 14 points, five boards and five steals and Ben Richardson tallied 13 points, two rebounds and three steals.

Eight players scored at least three points in the win. Stadan Vansice chipped in three points, three rebounds and three steals.

The Bolts' bench got six points from Cody Samson, five from Logan Jones, three from Carter Smith and two rebounds each from Matt Richardson and Logan Rainsbarger.

The Bolts (6-0, 5-0 in the conference) shot 61.4 percent from the floor, made 6-of-14 from 3-point range and connected on 3-of-10 from the free-throw line. The hosts turned the ball over only three times.

Yamni Whiteman led Meskwaki with six points and eight rebounds. The Warriors (1-7, 0-5) shot 32 percent from the floor, made 5-of-17 from 3 and did not attempt a free throw. They turned the ball over 17 times.

Baxter 71, North Tama 49

BAXTER — Baxter used advantages in both the first and third frames to grab momentum and the Bolts stayed undefeated following a 71-49 home win over the Redhawks on Hall of Fame Night.

Four players scored at least 14 points and the Bolts made more than half of their shots from the floor for the second straight game during the Iowa Star Conference South victory.

Baxter led 20-12 after one and outscored the Redhawks 21-12 in the third. The Bolts won the other two quarters by three.

Sulzle led Baxter with 17 points and eight rebounds and Richardson had a career-high 17 points and added four rebounds and two steals.

Treyton Travis tallied 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals and Cainan Travis registered 14 points, five boards and two steals.

Vansice contributed five points, two rebounds and four steals. The Bolts shot 56 percent from the floor, made 3-of-14 from 3 and buried 10-of-12 from the foul line. They committed 15 turnovers.

Baxter High School inducted four new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame. The group included Deb Krampe, Tracy Cross, Travis Lindemoen and Dylan Hansen.

Kayler Morris led North Tama with a game-high 19 points and four boards. Tyrus Luker had 11 points and Jared Dvorak put in 10.

The Redhawks (4-3, 4-2) shot 47 percent from the floor but made just 4-of-20 from 3 and 1-of-6 from the foul line.
