Basketball Roundup: BCC girls roll past Lakeview; Pennfield, Harper Creek boys fall short

BATTLE CREEK - Battle Creek Central had fallen short in this girls basketball city rivalry for the last few years. But all of that turned around on Friday as the Bearcats earned some revenge for some recent results.

Battle Creek Central defeated Lakeview, 42-25, in this Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference girls basketball game at the BCC Fieldhouse on Friday.

It is the first BCC win over its crosstown foes since 2020, after losing five straight to Lakeview.

“It’s always a competitive game between Battle Creek Central and Lakeview and tonight we came out on top,” BCC coach Tony Warren said. “We were just trying to even out the win-loss column with them, from how it’s been lately. We have been young and overmatched a bit in recent years. This year, they are injured a bit and young. And tonight we thought we were the better team coming in and we wanted to play like it.”

BCC led 23-6 at halftime. That lead was important because Lakeview rallied in the third quarter to cut it to 28-20.

“We didn’t want to give them any life,” Warren said. “We wanted to jump out on them early and we were able to do that.”

A’Mya Hodges led BCC with 18 points as the Bearcats improve to 8-1. Myliyah Mosley added 12.

“Our whole goal was to stop 11 (Hodges) and 23 (Mosley). We did that a bit in the first three quarters, but they did enough late to get the win.”

Camille Oxley had 12 points to lead Lakeview which falls to 2-8.
