Top 10 rankings

All records entering April 16

  1. Ketcham (5-0) — The Storm are off to an unbeaten start, but a nine-inning scare from Mamaroneck will provide plenty of fuel and learning opportunities moving forward. The Tigers went on the road and nearly caught Ketcham, but the Storm was able to survive and hang on for a 5-4 win. Previously: 1

  2. Iona Prep (7-0) — Iona Prep is headed back to New York after a successful road trip to Rhode Island, where it beat Bishop Hendricken, 6-4. Aside from that, the Gaels have beaten every CHSAA opponent by three or more runs so far. Previously: 2

  3. Mamaroneck (3-3-1) — The Tigers suffered their first loss against Section 1 competition when they fell short in a nine-inning marathon with Ketcham on Saturday. It will be interesting to see how they respond from that and attempt to bounce back this week. Previously: 4

  4. John Jay-East Fishkill (2-0-1) — The Patriots showed some resilience, when they were behind Mahopac by a couple of runs, but managed to battle back and force a 5-5 draw against the Wolf Pac, after the game was called for darkness. Before that, they won a pair of 3-2 battles with Ossining and New Rochelle. Previously: 3

  5. Kennedy Catholic (7-1) — The Gaels are getting into a groove. They enter the week with a six-game winning streak, where they emerged victorious in a busy slate that included six games in eight days. Previously: 5

  6. North Rockland (4-0) — They've outscored their opponents, 39-7, with wins over Bronx-based Walton, Section 9's Pine Bush and White Plains. Maryland commit Cris Cespedes is one of the top arms around, but overall, they've been hitting well as a team. Their schedule ahead should be more revealing, as they open league play. Previously: Not ranked

  7. Fox Lane (3-1) — St. John's commit Tyler Renz is a standout ace, but the Foxes have some solid hitting throughout their batting order. If they can tighten up defensively, they'll also be in the mix in Class AA. They suffered a tough 3-2 loss to Harrison, but got a couple of quality wins over Carmel, Mahopac and Suffern, which marked longtime coach Matt Hillis' 400th career victory. Previously: Not ranked

  8. John Jay-Cross River (5-2) — The Wolves took a stinging loss on Sunday, after Somers snatched the lead in the seventh inning. Before that, they enjoyed lopsided wins against the likes of Harrison, Panas, Saunders and Lakeland. Their only other loss came against Ketcham. After finishing as Class A runner-ups last year, they're looking to go deep once again this year. Previously: Not ranked

  9. Mahopac (5-2-1) — The Wolf Pac have had a solid start, but expect them to be fired up going into this week, after a few missed opportunities. They were in front by three or more runs against Fox Lane and John Jay-East Fishkill, before the Foxes came back to win in walkoff fashion and the Patriots forced a 5-5 draw. They also lost a close 8-7 battle against Panas on Saturday, but bounced back with a decisive 10-0 win over Brewster on Monday. Previously: 8

  10. Tappan Zee (7-1) — The Dutchmen have responded well since suffering a loss to Yorktown and have a five-game winning streak. They've outscored opponents, 75-30, so far, which includes a 14-0 win over Albertus Magnus, who's looking like the team to beat in Class B. Previously: 9

On the bubble: Albertus Magnus (7-1), Panas (4-1), Arlington (5-1), Stepinac (4-5), Harrison (6-3), Croton-Harmon (8-1), Suffern (4-4), Brewster (5-3), New Rochelle (2-2), Ossining (2-2), Clarkstown South (2-5)
