Barrington, Smithfield, Chariho baseball; Mount softball; Bay View, EP lacrosse all win

BASEBALL

Division I

Smithfield 3, Coventry 0

Freshman Jackson Chamberlin threw a complete game shutout, allowing only 5 hits with 2 strikeouts as Smithfield defeated Coventry. Chris Lopez was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Shaun Dwyer scored a run and drove one in with a fielders choice for the Sentinels. With the win, Smithfield finds itself in D-1 playoffs. Defense was also a key factor in the win as Bradyn Shadoian, Nick Collins, Ryan Flynn, and Lopez all turned in terrific plays. Tommy Turner, the Oakers' starting pitcher, struck out 9 in the loss.

Portsmouth 11, Middletown 8

The Islanders scored five runs in the 6th inning, but the Patriots weathered the storm to earn the nonleague victory. Portsmouth's offense compiled 12 hits and John Mass was the winning pitcher, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out two in one inning. Cam Ruggieri, Casey Cord, and Damon Owen all put in work in relief out of the bullpen. Middletown's big inning was driven by singles by Evan LeVasseur and Evan Agren, an error on a ball put in play by Hunter Jones, and a double by Caleb Cinquegrana.

Division II

Chariho 12, Johnston 2

The Chargers bats came out in force, pounding out 17 hits in their regular-season finale to clinch the Division II-D title. Jack Stevens led the hit parade, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Ethan ElderkinAlan CarpenterBoone BessetteNolan Lopes and Kyle McGovern all had multiple hits. In his first appearance this season, Brady Anderson went 3 innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 3. Carpenter relieved, not giving up a run in his 2 innings. For the Panthers, Derek Salvatore was 2-3 with a run scored.

Nonleague

Barrington 9, Tolman 2

Miles Fontaine and Nick Scandura combined for 4 RBI as the Eagles compiled 10 hits to defeat the Tigers and finish their regular season with a 17-4 overall record. Fontaine had a pair of sacrifice flies while Scandura was 2-for-3. Matt Davis earned the victory by pitching the first four innings. He allowed three hits, one unearned run replete and struck out three and didn't walk a Tiger.

SOFTBALL

Division III

Mount Saint Charles 6, Tiverton 1

The Mounties' Olivia Young tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts to wrap up the regular season on a high note. She allowed 5 hits, and also hit a 2-run home run in the first inning. She finished 3-4, with 2 runs and 3 RBIs. Bella Mencarini was 2-4, with 2 runs scored and Carolyn Acker went 2-2. The Tigers' Abigail DeMello was 2-4 with a run in the loss. MSC will be the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, Tiverton will be the No. 2 seed.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division II

Cranston West 13, Middletown 7

The play of Braelyn King (5 goals), Emily Abendroth (4 goals, 1 assist) and Aria Lee (3 goals, 1 assist) helped the Falcons knock off the Islanders in the D-II quarterfinal. Virginia Hamilton had 4 goals for Middletown in the loss.

Division III

Bay View 13, Rocky Hill 10

Annabelle Tracy netted six goals, including the 100th of her high school career, paving the way for Bayview's victory over Rocky Hill. Also contributing to the win were Phoebe Dolan and Liz Healy, who each had a hattrick, and goaltender Katie Shields, who gathered 13 saves. Maddie Ruzzo was a force for RH with 4 tallies in the loss.

East Providence 11, Cranston East 2

The Townies broke open a 1-goal halftime lead to advance in the Div. III quarterfinals. EP's Ryleigh Grant led all scorers with 6 goals and 1 assist (78 goals on the season), Kenna Wigginton had 3 and Makayla Rebelo and Abby Leddy each had one. Townies keeper Ava Williams had 9 saves in the win. For the Thunderbolts, Kylie McCreavy and Lily Tillinghast each scored.

BOYS TENNIS

Division I

Mount St. Charles 4, Moses Brown 0

A three-set victory by Dylan Girouard and Sebastian Iacuone over James Talbot and Nate Frary ( 6-1, 3-6, 6-3) at No. 2 doubles turned out to be the deciding point as Mount St. Charles def. Moses Brown in the Division I quarterfinals.

Ted Bielecki (MSC) def. Derek Chen, 6-4, 6-0; Nick Zinno (MSC) def. Jack Williman, 6-3, 1-6, 63; Adrian Dimino def. Gabe Mancini, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2); Dylan Girouard and Sebastian Iacuone def. James Talbot and Nate Frary, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Hendricken 4, Smithfield 0

Luca Testa's victory at No. 4 singles straight-set victories (6-0, 6-0) turned out to be the decider in Hendricken's victory over Smithfield in the D-1 quarterfinal.
