Barrington keeps on winning in baseball; Rogers, Mount St. Charles are victorious in softball

BASEBALL

Division II

Barrington 5, North Providence 0

Ben Nowinski, Matt Davis and Jack Lawson combined on a three-hit shutout as Barrington won its ninth consecutive game to improve to 9-3 this season. Harrison Cooley paced the Eagles by going 3-for-3 and he also stole a base. Davis had a double and a sacrifice fly and Owen Pfeffer doubled and was credited with an RBI on a sacrifice bunt when a teammate scored from second base.

SOFTBALL

Division III

Rogers 16, Exeter-West Greenwich 1

Tess Margolis, Maeve Higgins and Taylor Gray each drove in 3 as the Vikings offense exploded for 16 runs in their matchup against the Scarlet Knights. In the circle, Higgins allowed 5 hits and struck out 2 to earn the victory. For EWG, Siena Letrendre was 2-for-2 at the plate and struck out 5.

Mount Saint Charles 12, Shea/Tolman 0

Olivia Young struck out 12 while yielding just a single hit in a 5-inning complete game shutout while teammates Brooke Forget (3 hits, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored) and Caitlin Belisle (2 hits, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored) provided the offense for the Mounties in a game shortened due to the mercy rule. Janayah Gordon had the only hit while striking out six for Shea/Tolman.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division III

Westerly 10, PCD/St. Raphael 4

Liam Cody's hat trick and two goals apiece by Caleb Williams and Lance Williams helped Westerly upend PCD/Saint Raphael. Williams also assisted on two scores and Cody added an assist. Goaltender Ryder Casady had 10 saves for the Bulldogs, who remain undefeated at 7-0. After missing most of the season with an injury, Ripley Pereirra, in his first game back, led PCD/SRA with 2 goals and netminder Andy Short recorded his 200th save in just his 16th start.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division III

Narragansett 15, PCD 6

Ellie Wooten hit the back of the net six times and added an assist and Julianne Harris and Natalie Salvadore had two goals and two assists apiece as Narragansett improved to 9-0 this season. Ellie Cordison scored a hat trick for the Knights.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Division I

North Kingstown 3 Cranston East 1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 25-21)

Ryan Harrington, just back from an injury, had 13 kills, 13 digs and 2 aces, and teammates Cody Tow and Quinlan Fahy each had 17 and 13 kills, respectively, as the Skippers knocked off the Thunderbolts and improved to 11-1 this season.

Division III

Juanita Sanchez 3, Portsmouth 0 (25-18, 25-3, 25-4). JV - P, 2-1.

Central Falls 3, Exeter/West Greenwich 0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-18)

Alex Rodriguez finished with 11 kills, Jamilson Depin Almeida nearly matched that with 10 and Odair Teixeira had 13 assists as the Knights dominated.

Woonsocket 3, Scituate 2 (25-22, 19-25, 22-25, 25-23, 17-17) JV - W, 2-1.

G'Ovani Collazo had 11 kills and 15 digs and Elias Arbaje recorded four blocks and 4 kills in a closely contested match won by the Villa Novans. Woonsocket is now 6-2 this season. Deklan Morrison had 16 kills, 2 blocks and 3 aces for the Spartans, who fall to 4-4 following the loss.
