Ballard boys cross country competes at ADM, football drops close one to Indianola

The boys cross country team ran at the Tiger Invitational on Sept. 18, finishing with stronger results than their meet before.

After placing 14th at the Ballard Invitational on Sept. 11, the Bombers placed eighth overall in Adel, finishing with 196 total team points.

Ballard’s group of freshmen led the way, starting with Max Davidson and Graden Hermann, who both finished in the top 25. Davidson placed 21st with a time of 18:56.2 while Hermann ran a time of 19:17.2 to place 25th.

Freshman Jude Jones rounded out the Bombers’ top three, placing 46th with a time of 21:31.2, while freshman Alex Weeks also snuck into the top 50 at 50th.

Ballard will hope to continue climbing when it competes at the Leon Fox Invite at 5 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Perry Golf and Country Club.

Football drops close one to Indianola

The Ballard football team fell in a close one to Indianola when the two competed on Sept. 22.

Though the Bombers and Indians kept things close all game, the Indians earned the 30-27 victory.

Despite the loss, senior running back Eli Rouse had a solid day on the ground, rushing 28 times for 100 yards and three scores.

Sophomore running back Jude Gibson also put up strong numbers, rushing three times for 61 yards.

Junior quarterback Mason Gatchel had a good day, going 8-for-12 for 114 yards and one touchdown, with senior Chance Lande being the receiver of the score, also catching five passes for 72 yards.

The Bombers will aim to bounce back when they take on North Polk at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at Ballard High School.
