Aurora gymnastics senior Hannah Salgado wins state title on the balance beam
Gina Gastaldo was a four-time state champion in the balance beam at West Geauga.
Now, she has coached a state beam champion at Aurora in Hannah Salgado, who set a state record with a 9.725 championship score.
Salgado's 9.725 broke the old mark of 9.675, set by Magnificat's Julie Devaty. Gastaldo has the third-highest score, a 9.650 in 2005. It should be noted the record book is broken into pre-1990 and post-1990 scores due to a change in the scoring system.

Salgado finished third in the all-around, including a 9.675 on the vault (good for fifth in the state), a 9.375 on the floor and a 9.225 on bars. It was her third top-five finish in the state all-around, as she was fourth last year and tied for fifth as a sophomore. Ironically, beam was the four-time state qualifier's weakest apparatus as a freshman, when she qualified for state in the bars, floor and vault but not the beam or all-around in 2021.
