Athlete of the Week: Florida High Volleyball Eva Goodson wins Big Bend Athlete of the Week
We have our first winner since the return of Athlete of the Week! With over 5,000 votes submitted, there could only be one winner.
Florida High Volleyball's Eva Goodson is your Big Bend Preps Athlete of the Week after picking up 21% of the 5,137 votes. The sophomore wins Athlete of the Week for her performance on Sep. 7 against Lincoln, where the Seminoles won in five sets 3-2 (25-16, 25-8, 20-25, 18-25, 15-11).
Goodson helped push Florida High over the edge, recording 18 kills, two aces, 18 digs and 26 assists in the Seminoles thrilling five-set contest with the Trojans. In 22 sets played this season, Goodson has recorded 50 kills, seven aces, two blocks, 65 digs and 123 assists.
Goodson has been an important piece to Florida High Volleyball's 5-1 start to the season. Seminole head coach Sheila Roberts described Goodson as part of the "glue for the team", providing the team with a boost of energy in critical moments.
Congratulations to Goodson and finalists Haden Klees (Wakulla), Samron Brinson (Wakulla), JJ McDaniel (Madison County), Omarion Gentle (Madison County), Zay Bryant (Madison County), Landon LaRosa (Aucilla Christian), Ethan Bass (Aucilla Christian), Vencent Bostick (Lincoln), Jashawn Washington (Lincoln), Natalie Gibson (Chiles) and Kemp Peoples (Leon).
The Tallahassee Democrat/Big Bend Preps runs an Athlete of the Week contest every week, recognizing one standout high school athlete out of eight nominees. Voting for AotW opens on Monday and closes on Thursday.
The Athlete of the Week will be announced every Friday.
