Astros star Alex Bregman: 'There's no city I'd like to beat more than Boston'
America, if you don’t already love Houston Astros star third baseman Alex Bregman, be prepared to jump on the bandwagon. Unless you live in Boston.

Bregman, whose Astros lost to the Boston Red Sox in the postseason last year, was on the “Going Deep with Chad and JT” podcast recently and threw down the gauntlet. What sports city does he most want to beat? The one so many people want to see lose after last year’s World Series and this year’s Super Bowl. Via MassLive.com:
“After watching the Patriots win and with the Red Sox beating us last year, there’s no other city that I would like to beat more this year than Boston,” Bregman said on the podcast.
Bregman and the Red Sox have had memorable tussles in the past. In 2017, he hit the game-tying homer in Fenway Park when the Astros beat the Red Sox in the ALDS. Last year, during their ALCS matchup, Bregman drew the ire of some Red Sox players when he posted a video on Instagram of the Astros hitting back-to-back-to-back homers off Nate Eovaldi. Steve Pearce, the eventual World Series MVP, responded by saying, “We do our talking on the field.”
With the Astros and Red Sox figuring to be two of the top AL teams again, we can imagine this Boston-Houston thing has legs going into 2019. Still, Red Sox manager Alex Cora — who is buddies with Bregman and used to be the Astros’ bench coach — wasn’t biting when he heard about Bregman’s comments.

“He said that?” Cora asked, smiling. “That’s my guy right there. He’s probably trying to get me to react. He’s doing OK. He’s rehabbing. He’s back in West Palm. He did a lot of things in the offseason: the Instagram stories, and yeah. That’s my guy so I’m not going to react to that one.”
Alex Bregman is basically baseball’s Baker Mayfield at this point, so yeah, it’s a good bet he was trying to get a reaction out of Cora. Or just all of Boston.
