Associated Press football state rankings: Mason, Ithaca, Fowler lead way in opening poll
The Mason football team has built on its best season in school history by getting off to another strong start.
And the early season success that has been highlighted by a Week 2 road victory over DeWitt has the Bulldogs ranked as one of the state's best in the opening Associated Press poll of the season.
Mason leads the Greater Lansing programs as part of this week's poll and is ranked No. 2 in Division 3. The Bulldogs, who are 3-0 ahead of their home CAAC Red contest against Williamston, received a pair of first-place votes.
Portland, Corunna, Ithaca and Fowler are the other area programs ranked in the top five in their divisions. Ithaca is No. 2 and Fowler is No. 3 in Division 8, while Corunna is ranked No. 4 in Division 5. Portland is ranked No. .5 in Division 3.
Pewamo-Westphalia and Morrice are the other area programs ranked in the top 10 in their divisions. P-W is No. 9 in Division 7 and Morrice is ranked No. 8 in 8-player Division 2.
