The East Lansing boys basketball team has been ranked among the top teams in Division 1 by the state's coaches in the opening month of the season.

The unbeaten Trojans are now also earning high recognition from the Associated Press.

The inaugural AP boys basketball rankings of the season feature East Lansing at No. 1 in Division 1. The Trojans, who are unbeaten and have won seven of their eight games by double figures, received three of five possible first-place votes while being ranked in the top spot.

East Lansing is one of three teams from Greater Lansing ranked in the top 10 in their division.

Laingsburg, which leads the CMAC and is the only other unbeaten team in the area, is ranked No. 4 in Division 3. Outside an overtime victory over rival Pewamo-Westphalia, Laingsburg has won each of its games by double figures as it has followed up last winter's success when it finished 25-1 and reached the state quarterfinals.

P-W, which also reached the quarterfinals last season, is ranked No. 10 in Division 3. The Pirates have won six straight since that setback to Laingsburg.

Receiving votes in the inaugural poll are Okemos and Waverly in Division 1 and CAAC White leader Sexton in Division 2.
