West De Pere quarterback Duke Shovald helped the Phantoms improve to 2-1 with a win over Green Bay West in Week 3.

WEEK 3 RANKINGS

West De Pere (2-1)

The Phantoms beat Green Bay West 54-0, putting up 35 points in the first quarter.

They ran only 22 plays on offense in the game but made them count.

West De Pere averaged 12.6 yards per play, had three quarterbacks throw at least one touchdown and four receivers catch one.

It will play at Ashwaubenon (1-2) on Thursday, a team it beat 43-20 last season.

Southern Door (3-0)

It’s difficult to beat the Eagles when it’s been nearly impossible to score points against them.

Southern Door extended its regular season winning streak to 12 with a 30-7 win at Mishicot.

It has not permitted more than seven points in any of its first three games and hasn’t allowed more than 15 in a game since October 2021.

The Eagles held Mishicot to 42 yards passing and 3 yards per carry.

Up next is a game at Bonduel (1-2) on Friday. The Bears earned their first win of the season with a 20-19 victory at Sturgeon Bay in Week 3.

Kewaunee (3-0)

The Storm had a dominant performance in a 43-6 win over Marinette.

Kewaunee piled up 436 total yards, including 278 rushing yards and five TDs on 40 carries.

It has scored 31 or more points in each of the first three games and plays at Oconto (2-1) on Friday.

Green Bay Notre Dame (2-1)

Had no problems in a 68-0 win over Green Bay East. The Tritons have outscored the Red Devils 130-0 the last two seasons.

Notre Dame hosts Sheboygan South (1-2) in Week 4. The Redwings are allowing 37.5 points the past two games after starting the season with a shutout against West Bend West.

Bay Port (1-2)

The losing streak is over at two.

The Pirates dominated Green Bay Preble 49-6 while scoring 35 points the first 13 minutes.

Bay Port’s defense celebrated the return of linebacker Landon Gauthier by holding Preble to 32 yards rushing on 20 carries.

It will play at Pulaski (1-2) in Week 4, looking to extend the overall success it has enjoyed against the team since Gary Westerman left for Bay Port in 2012 after coaching the Red Raiders for one season.

The Pirates have gone 10-1 during that span.

Wrightstown (3-0)

The Tigers remained perfect with a 34-13 win over Winneconne and are averaging 43.7 points this season.

Wrightstown didn’t register a passing yard in the win, but it didn’t need to with a rushing attack that had close to 400 yards.

Trevor Vande Hey finished with 195 yards and three TDs and Aiden Humphreys had 144 yards and one score while averaging 13.1 yards per carry.

Wrightstown plays at Appleton Xavier (2-1) in Week 4. It should be a good test against a Hawks team considered the favorite in the Bay Conference after winning each of the last two titles.

Xavier beat Wrightstown 17-7 in the playoffs last season.

Luxemburg-Casco (2-1)

The Spartans had a big day in a 48-0 win over New London.

It was their first shutout since blanking Winneconne in September 2021.

L-C plays a Shawano (0-3) team Friday that has allowed at least 28 points in every game and permitted 42 in a loss at Fox Valley Lutheran in Week 3.

Coleman (2-1)

The Cougars were upset in a 36-34 loss to Crivitz, their first defeat in the regular season since 2020.

Coleman led 28-20 in the third quarter but allowed 16 straight points to relinquish a lead it never would get back.

It struggled to stop a Crivitz run game that went for 361 yards on 55 attempts and scored five TDs.

Coleman will host Bark River-Harris (Michigan) in Week 4.

Oconto Falls (3-1)

The Panthers got a forfeit victory over Menominee Indian but lost 36-20 to Grantsburg in Week 3.

Grantsburg led wire-to-wire, although the Panthers cut their deficit to just four points in the third quarter before allowing a 60-yard kickoff return for a TD.

Oconto Falls hosts Auburndale (3-0) on Friday.

Pulaski (1-2)

The Red Raiders earned their first win with a thrilling 35-30 victory over De Pere.

They trailed 18-7 at halftime but outscored the Redbirds 21-0 in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Pulaski always is known for its rushing attack, but it threw for 100 yards and one TD against De Pere. The run game did look much like it has in recent years, finishing with 311 yards, averaging 8 yards per carry and scoring four TDs.

It was a big first win with a couple of difficult games coming up.

It starts against Bay Port on Thursday. The team hasn’t had much success against the Pirates in the past decade, but it has gone 1-2 in the last three meetings and has allowed no more than 23 points in any of the contests against a perennially high-powered Pirates offense.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Gus Newel, Ashwaubenon

The junior running back had a career-high 181 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-14 win over Green Bay Southwest.

It was the third time Newel has topped the 100-yard mark in his career after going for 163 against Preble and 124 against West De Pere last season.

Blake Buchinger, Bay Port

After leading the Pirates in rushing last season, the team had plans to turn him more into a receiver as a senior.

He had the best game of his career in that department against the Hornets, catching six passes for 139 yards and two scores.

Buchinger has 21 receptions for 248 yards this season.

Owen Carlson, Kewaunee

Rushed 20 times for 219 yards and four TDs and caught one pass for 38 yards and a score against Marinette.

The senior already has 585 rushing yards and 10 TDs the first three games after rushing for 800 yards and 12 scores last season.

Hayden May, De Pere

The senior wideout and his quarterback, Easton Arendt, put on quite the show in a loss to Pulaski.

May finished with nine receptions for 157 yards and three TDs, which included scores from 27 and 30 yards.

Logan Shultz, Pulaski

The senior leader stepped up big against De Pere.

He completed his only pass for 23 yards but did his most damage on the ground with 15 carries for 168 yards and three TDs.

All his scores came in the second half, including a 57-yard run that put Pulaski up 10 points in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.

Bryce Wotruba, Pulaski

Had two big interceptions in the win against the Redbirds. It included one in the end zone at the end of the first half that kept the Red Raiders deficit at 11 points and helped spur them to a big second half.

William Jandrin, Southern Door

The senior linebacker had 11 total tackles and a forced fumble against Mishicot.

He has 35 total tackles, including 25 solo, the first three games.

Aiden Humphreys, Wrightstown

Along with the 144 yards rushing the junior had against Winneconne, he added 11 total tackles and a sack at linebacker.

He is averaging 8 tackles per game.
