Ashley Morgan breaks career hit-by-pitch record for a Lady Vol

No. 14 Tennessee lost to Mississippi State Saturday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

With the 8-3 win, Mississippi State (24-11, 5-3 SEC) evened the series. Tennessee and Mississippi State will play Sunday at noon EDT. SEC Network will televise the matchup.

Mississippi State scored twice in the first inning before the Lady Vols (24-10, 6-4 SEC) answered with a pair or runs to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.

Freshman Lair Beautae drove in Tennessee’s first run of the game and later came home off Rylie West’s fly out.

Beautae, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, scored UT’s third run when Zaida Puni singled in the seventh inning.

Chloe Malau’ulu led Mississippi State as she went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI double.

Mia Davidson also had a home run and a double for the Bulldogs, who scored four runs in the third inning and tallied two more in the fourth.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ashley Morgan was hit by a pitch for the 41st time in her career. She broke the career hit-by-pitch record for a Lady Vol. Chelsea Seggern (2017-21) previously held the program record.
