Ashland Postseason Tracker: Ashland girls advance to Division I district golf tournament

ASHLAND − With postseason action going on across the state of Ohio, we will be tracking games and tournament results through the playoffs for individual and team sports involving Ashland schools for the fall.

September 26, Tuesday

Division III Boys (Northeast) Sectional Golf Tournament at the Bunker Hill Golf Club

For the sectional round, the top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team advances to next week's district tournament. In some instances, it's the top four individuals not a qualifying team that advance.

For the team results, Mapleton finished second and advanced to the district tournament shooting a combined 351, behind first-place finisher Independence who shot 335. Mapleton senior Brock Durbin shot a team-low 79 (posted the fourth lowest score but just missed out qualifying individually), while teammates Dalton Beattie (88), Cole Dennison (90), Ryan Hickey (94) and Owen Beattie (98) rounded it out for the Mounties.

In other team results, Hillsdale finished sixth (364), Loudonville was ninth (416), Northwestern placed 11th (430) and Black River came in 13th (502). Loudonville's Judah Layton shot a 82 and just missed clinching the third qualifying spot, as a fell in a playoff to Open Door Christian's Will Giesbrecht.

Division II Girls Sectional (Northwest) Golf Tournament at Valley View Golf Course

No Ashland school advanced to the district tournament (Crestview finished 10th place), but New London's Kendyl Moffit was the lone individual qualifier from an Ashland school. Moffit shot a 47-44-91, which was tied for the fifth lowest score on the day. Edison's Mallory Meister won the sectional title with a score of 78.

September 27, Wednesday

Division II Girls Sectional (Northeast) Golf Tournament at The Pines Golf Club

Hillsdale junior Dally Meek qualified for the district tournament on Wednesday, as she finished tied for seventh overall, making her one of the top four individual golfers not on a qualifying team to advance. Meek shot a 46 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine for a score of 92. Mapleton was the highest-placing Ashland team, as they finished 13th place.

September 28, Thursday

Division II Boys Sectional (Northwest) Golf Tournament at Woussickett Golf Course

As a team, Crestview just missed qualifying for the district tournament as they finished fourth shooting 329, which was three strokes behind third-place and district qualifier Galion (326). Shelby finished first (309) and Bellevue second (316). There were also no individual district qualifiers from Ashland, as Crestview's Dylan Bruner and Aaron Spencer were the highest placers each shooting an 80 and finished tied for 12th.

New London had a swell day on the course as the boys team shot 351, finished as the sectional runner-up and advanced to next week's district tournament. Wynford shot 342 to win the sectional title. The Wildcats Brody Sword advanced as an individual district qualifier, shooting a 40-40-80 to finish tied for second alongside Calvert's Kevin Ardner.

October 2, Monday

Division II Girls District (Northwest) Golf Tournament at Sycamore Springs

New London's Kendyl Moffit missed qualifying for the state tournament at the district tournament, by shooting 107 on the day.

Division II Girls District (Northeast) Golf Tournament at Good Park Golf Course

Hillsdale's Dally Meek placed 34th at the district tournament and missed a state berth by shooting 49-46-95.

October 3, Tuesday

Division I Boys Sectional (Northwest) Golf Tournament at Sycamore Springs

The Ashland Arrows boys missed qualifying for the district tournament by finishing seventh place at the sectional tournament in the team standings, with a score of 370. Findlay won the sectional tournament with a score of 328. Ashland's Reed Emmons and Ty Bates both shot a team-low 89, while Ryan Eberling shot 93, Landon Dreibelbis 99 and Xavier Gehrisch 111. Emmons and Bates were the highest placing individual golfers for Ashland, both finishing tied for 18th place.

October 4, Wednesday

Division I Girls Sectional (Northwest) Golf Tournament at Sycamore Springs

The Ashland Arrows girls put in a strong outing at the sectional tournament by finishing as runner-up behind first-place Lexington. The Arrows shot 392 behind Lexington's 375. As one of the five schools that qualified for the district tournament, all five of Ashland's golfers will participate as an individual qualifier. The Arrows Kyah Huckleberry shot a team-low 87, while Lydia Wells (88), Elleni Miller (90), Natalie Kohler (127) and Carly Wyatt (129) all added to Ashland's second-place finish.

October 5, Thursday

Division III Golf District (Northeast) Golf Tournament at Tannenhauf Golf Club

The Mapleton boys team came up short of reaching the state tournament, placing eighth amongst 10 schools. The Mounties shot 374 on the day.

Division III Golf District (Northwest) Golf Tournament at Stone Ridge

New London's boys team placed 16th out of 18 schools by shooting 381, missing a state tournament berth. New London's Brody Sword shot a team-best 91 on the day.
