Arrows getting ready to face some of the state top teams in the coming days

WATERTOWN — Watertown High School's boys tennis team tuned up for a tough stretch by posting 9-0 wins over Aberdeen Roncalli and Sioux Falls Roosevelt in a triangular Tuesday at Highland Park.

The Arrows are slated to host highly-regarded Sioux Falls Washington at 12:30 p.m. on Friday before hitting the road next week to face Harrisburg and O'Gorman on Monday at Harrisburg, Brandon Valley and Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday at Brandon and Yankton and Brookings on Thursday at Yankton.

"Washington is a really good team and next week is going to be tough," Watertown coach Ryan Zink said. "We are goinig to face some of the best teams in the state so it will be fun to see how the kids compete."

Curtis Sneden, Evan Meester, Justin Remmers, Joey Meester, Skyler Stanton and Matthew Bertsch each swept in singles, as did the doubles teams of Sneden-E. Meester, Remmers-Stanton, J. Meester-Sam Karst on Tuesday.

"It was a pretty nice day for tennis except for the wind," Zink said. "We started a little slow in doubles against Roncalli and then kind of took over the matches. I was really happy with singles matches. Some kids may not have played their best but they competed and found a way to win."

Aberdeen Roncalli 8, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 1

WATERTOWN — Roncalli improved to 6-4 with the win over Roosevelt.

The Cavaliers (6-4) are scheduled to face Huron and Milbank in a triangular moved from Tuesday to Thursday in Milbrank and also are slated to meet Aberdeen Central at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Madison 5, Milbank 4

MILBANK — Madison won five of the six singles matches and survived Milbank's sweep in doubles to win the dual.

The host Bulldogs, who beat Pipestone (Minn.) 6-1 last week, fell to 1-3.

Singles — Joe Schulte, Mil, def. Spenver Reverts, 10-6; Elijah Sims, Mad, def. Charles Whitesitt, 10-5; Taiden Pierce, Mad, def. Gregory Grabow, 10-7; Ethan Sims, Mad, def. Will Muellenbach, 10-3; Chase Steuerwald, Mad, def. Daniel Shelstad, 10-5; and Maguire Studer, Mad, def. Alex Baugh, 10-6.

Doubles — Schulte-Grabow, Mil, def. Reverts-Elijah Sims, 10-5; Whitesitt-Muellenbach, Mil, def. Pierce-Ethan Sims, 10-6; NS Shelstad-Baugh, Mil, def. Steuerwald-Studer, 10-9 (7-4 tiebreaker).

"We battled hard but lost a close match," Milbank coach Abbey Trapp said. "It was exciting to win all three doubles matches. The doubles teams attacked the net and communicated well with each other. Joe Schulte also came up with a huge win at No. 1 singles."

Whitesitt, (No. 1), Muellenbach (No. 2), Shelstad (No. 3) and Franklin Pederson (No. 4) each won in singles against Pipestone and the Bulldogs also received forfeit wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Milbank is scheduled to host Huron and Roncalli in a triangular starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The triangular was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Milbank will also host Lac qui Parle Valley (Minn.) at 4 p.m. on Friday.
