Arizona Cardinals poised to get rookie Garrett Williams, veteran Dennis Daley back from injuries

The Arizona Cardinals will, as soon as this week, get some help at cornerback and offensive line with the designated return of rookie Garrett Williams from the Non-Football Injury List and Dennis Daley from injured reserve.

Williams and Daley begin practicing Wednesday and the team can activate each player to the 53-man roster at any time during the next 21 days or at the conclusion of the three-week period.

Williams has been dealing with a long-term knee injury from his time in college at Syracuse and never took part in Cardinals training camp. He did his rehab work every day on the field before practice and has continued that into the season.

"I felt comfortable out there, you know, it's back to doing what I do. That's why I'm here," Williams said. "I feel like the whole time I was here I did a good job taking all the mental reps. Asking questions and things like that. And I kind of know the physical part is going to kind of just come along with time."

Williams did his rehab alongside Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and tight end Zach Ertz and got advice and motivation from the two veterans. The plan is to ramp things up in practice over the course of the week.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said Williams, who brings physicality to the cornerback group, will need to get some practices in to see how he is doing mentally and physically and will be evaluated for a return to the field day by day.

"He's in a little bit different spot as far as experience and things that he needs to get done throughout the week. Technique, fundamentals, schematics, all that stuff. So, you know, we'll have our eye on him," Gannon said.

Daley had found a role as a versatile backup before injuring an ankle in the Cardinals' preseason finale at Minnesota.

"We had a role for him that we're going to use on game day. But just like all these guys, you know, with Garrett too, like, we gotta see how he is, big guy coming back from an ankle," Gannon said. "So I'm looking forward, he's another one ready to go. But we'll see where it goes this week and see if we can get him back in the fold if he feels well enough to play."

Injury report

The Cardinals had eight players on the first injury report of the week Wednesday, including Williams who was limited. Others included RB Keaontay Ingram, who did not practice due to a neck injury, LB Krys Barnes (finger) Daley and C Hjalte Froholdt (neck). Those three and LB Josh Woods (finger) and DL Jonathan Ledbetter (ankle) were limited as well.
