Area volleyball roundup for Sept. 7: Parkston takes four-set match off Blackhawks

Sep. 7—FORESTBURG, S.D. — After splitting the first two sets, Parkston closed out a high school volleyball win over Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in four sets on Thursday night. Set scores were 25-20, 20-25, 25-8 and 25-21.

Mya Nuebel led the way for the Trojans with 19 kills, 18 digs and six service aces and Gracie Oakley had 11 kills, aided by Avery Bogenreif's 46 assists and 18 digs. Berkley Ziebart posted a match-high 21 digs with five kills, while Allie Hobbick finished with 19 digs and five aces.

For the Blackhawks, Liz Boschee notched 10 kills, four blocks and two service aces, while Kam Oschner contributed 15 digs and four blocks. Kenzie Schley had 23 assists, Kali Hofer had 13 digs and Kenna Oschner had six kills.

Parkston (7-2) visits Gregory on Sept. 12, while SCW (3-4) is set to compete in the Warbird Volleyball Invite on Saturday in Wolsey.

* Karly VanDerWerff and Cadence Van Zee each posted 11 kills, aided by 29 assists by Baleigh Nachtigal, as Platte-Geddes swept Bon Homme. VanDerWerff added 24 digs and Van Zee finished with three service aces. For Bon Homme, Olivia Bures and Taycee Ranek had seven kills apiece in the loss.

* Ethan swept Menno behind a 22-kill, 16-dig night from Ava Lingemann, while Maddy Bartscher put up 32 assists, 11 digs and one service ace. Ashton Massey led Menno with seven kills, and Joslynn Fischer had 16 assists and 16 digs in the loss.

* Kailee Frank had eight kills and 13 digs and Emmie Hausmann had seven kills for Class B No. 4 Burke in a three-set defeat against O'Neill St. Mary's (Neb.).

* Wessington Springs earned a four-set victory over Howard, powered by Avery Orth, who notched 19 kills, four blocks and four service aces. Alyssa Grohs added 32 assists and 24 digs for the Spartans.

* Sierra McGregor finished with 18 kills and three blocks and Natalie Becker had 33 digs and four service aces as Canistota snuck past Dell Rapids St. Mary in five sets.

* Emory Brosnahan powered Sioux Falls Jefferson to a four-set win over Sioux Falls Lincoln with 16 kills and seven service aces. For the Cavaliers, Presly Pastian put up 42 assists, and Cora Hokenstad had 24 digs and five aces.

* Class B No. 2 Chester took down Sioux Valley in the Big East Conference Tournament and remained undefeated behind Jacy Wolf's 12 kills, 11 assists and nine digs and Lily VanHal's nine kills, 23 assists and four service aces.

* Class B No. 5 Colman-Egan moved past Elkton-Lake Benton in a best-of-three-sets match, as Daniela Lee posted 11 kills, 22 digs and four service aces for the Hawks.

* Audrey Nelson powered Madison to a sweep of Lennox with 20 kills, 10 digs and nine blocks.

* Kaedyn Sapp notched 11 kills, 37 digs and four service aces to help Sioux Valley past McCook Central/Montrose in the Big East Tournament. Abby Wagner had six kills and six blocks for the Fighting Cougars in the two-set loss.
