Area Roundup: Sultana girls basketball tops Silverado in overtime

The Sultana girls basketball team topped Silverado 39-38 in overtime Wednesday night for its third straight victory to start the season.

The Sultans will play in the championship game of the University Prep tournament Saturday afternoon.

Percy Lopez led Sultana with 16 points against Silverado.

Anisha Nolen added nine points with six rebounds; and Angelina Sanchez-Guevara scored eight points with two assists.

Lopez also led the Sultans with 16 points in a 49-31 victory over Adelanto on Monday. Leah Garcia added 14 points.

Garcia led Sultana with 14 more points in a 39-32 victory over the host University Prep on Tuesday.

PREP BOYS BASKETBALL

Oak Hills 58, Beckman 44

Michael Miller dropped 22 points with five rebounds Wednesday night as the Bulldogs picked up their second win of the Sunny Hills tournament.

Johnny Castellanos added 11 points and five assists.

Oak Hills opened the tourney with a 67-39 victory over Sonora and lost the following day 64-52 to Canyon.

The Bulldogs (2-1) are back in action Friday against La Serna.

University Prep 43, ACE 34

At Oro Grande, Julius Scruggs scored 21 points as the Jaguars opened the season with a victory in the Riverside Prep tourney.

Jason Allen added 13 points for University Prep.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Valley View 57, Hesperia 47

At Moreno Valley, the Scorpions committed 12 turnovers in the second quarter and dropped its first game of the season Wednesday.

Kylee Edgar led the team with 14 points, Queen Allah added 13 points and Berlin Miramontes scored 11 points.

On Tuesday, Hesperia kicked off the season with a 65-4 victory over Arlington.

Allah led all scorers with 23 points, and Savannah Wynn and Edgar added 11 points each.

PREP BOYS SOCCER

Hesperia 7, Barstow 2

Brandon Zavala scored four goals as the Scorpions kicked off the season with a victory over the Aztecs on Wednesday.

Marcos Galindo also scored twice and Eduardo Enriquez added a goal.

Jose Reyes, Mathew Huerta and Arturo Arrellano each recorded an assist.

Hesperia is back in action against Silverado on Dec. 2.
