Area high school football roundup: Goodridge-Grygla, Stephen-Argyle advance to section final

Oct. 28—GRAND FORKS — A dominant performance from Goodridge-Grygla and a strong finish from Stephen-Argyle has set up a section championship in Minnesota Section 8 9-man.

Goodridge-Grygla knocked off Win-E-Mac 37-12, while Stephen-Argyle beat Kittson County Central 32-26 in the Section 8 9-man semifinals on Saturday.

Lewis Jones ran 19 times for 136 yards and two third-quarter touchdowns to power Goodridge-Grygla.

Win-E-Mac's Ryan Kangas scored on a 15-yard run in the second quarter to pull within 8-6 but Goodridge-Grygla led 16-6 at halftime when Kehan Nelson scored his second touchdown of the game in the second quarter on an 11-yard pass from G-G quarterback Blake Rychlock.

The two Jones touchdown runs — of 12 and 7 yards — were the only scoring in the third quarter.

For Stephen-Argyle, the Storm advance with scoring the final three touchdowns of the game including the only two scores in the fourth quarter.

Kittson County Central led 26-12 after a 70-yard run by Ashton Knutson in the third quarter.

But the Storm answered with a 2-yard run by Cooper Clausen to pull within 26-18. A Blaine Smith 5-yard touchdown run made it 26-24 KCC and Radon Woinarowicz's 5-yard touchdown run provided the game-winning points.

Stephen-Argyle and Goodridge-Grygla will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Fargodome in the section championship.

Fertile-Beltrami advanced to the section championship with a convincing 50-18 win over Blackduck in the Minnesota Section 6 9-man semifinals.

The Falcons will play Clearbrook-Gonvick on Thursday for the section title in the Fargodome at 4:30 p.m.

Isaiah Wright scored on touchdown runs of 50, 62 and 22 for the Falcons.

The combination of Rayce Worley and Mason Romfo overpowered Central Cass 26-14 in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class A playoffs on Saturday.

The Cardinals advance to play at Kindred at 1:30 p.m. in the state semifinals.

Worley had 26 carries for 153 yards. Romfo had 27 carries for 118 yards and three touhdowns.

Blake Mattson's five touchdown runs and more than 200 yards rushing were too much for Nelson County in a 36-22 win for North Prairie in North Dakota 9-man football.

North Prairie advances to play at Westhope-N-G at 2 p.m. Saturday in the state semifinals.

Mattson scored three 5-yard runs, an 84-yard run and a 58-yard run. Three of Matton's touchdown runs came in the second half as North Prairie pulled away after trailing 16-14 at halftime.
