AREA ATHLETE COLLEGE REPORT: Hendrix laps track; Hall zaps batters; Hewitt raps homers

Following is a roundup of how former area high school student-athletes have fared in recent college sports action.

KENZIE HENDRIX

(Wesleyan Christian)

Ark Tech women’s track

Hendrix whirled to sixth place (18:23) in the women’s 5k run at the John Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma.

At the Little Rock Invitational held earlier in April, Hendrix hustled to 15th place (5:02.35) in the 1500m.

Hendrix is a freshman. Her best times this season are: 1500m (5:01.31), 3k (10:45.19), 5k (17:51.48) and 10k (38:19.13).

She placed third in the 5k at the Richard Martin Invitational and fifth in the 10k in the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival.

She starred in girls cross country, girls basketball and girls track at Wesleyan Christian.

JAKOB HALL

(Bartlesville)

Oral Roberts baseball

The former Bruin cobra of quiet fire and red-hot venom has unleashed a stinging display of mound flinging during his past two outings.

Last week, Hall (3-5) paralyzed North Dakota State batters in six shutout innings on the way to a 10-0 victory. Hall gave up only five hits and two walks and whiffed seven batters.

The previous week, Hall uncoiled a slithery gem, working seven innings with only three hits and no walks allowed and seven strikeouts in a 10-0 rout of Northern Colorado.

Hall is 4-0 in his last six appearances. For the season, he has worked 56 innings, given up a paltry eight walks ad fanned 64 batters. His earned run average is 3.70.

DANIEL BARHAM

(Caney Valley)

Coffeyville College baseball

Barham has made 12 relief pitching appearances to work 13.1 innings and post a 6.07 earned run average. He has allowed nine walks and snapped off 17 strikeouts.

Barham excelled in three sports at Caney Valley and in summer baseball for the Bartlesville Doenges Ford Indians.

CHESNIE HEWITT

(Oklahoma Union)

Murray State softball

Hewitt is one of the dynamos on the nation’s top-ranked Lady Aggies’ team that boasts a 46-0 record.

During a recent four game sweep of Southern Arkansas Community College (SACC), Hewitt ripped the ball like a lioness slicing through a bamboo wall.

Murray 8, SACC 0: Hewitt homered and doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Murray 17, SACC 1: Hewitt homered, plated four runs and crossed home plate twice.

Murray 5, SACC 1: Hewitt doubled, singled and scored.

Murray 10, SACC 2: Hewitt belted a solo homer.

Her four-game total included three homers, two doubles, eight RBIs and scored six runs.

JACE KAMINSKA

(Caney, Kan.)

Nebraska baseball

It’s hard to succeed on the mound with no runs to back you up. That’s what happened to Kaminska in his most recent start in an 8-0 loss to Iowa.

Kaminska (5-3) worked the first three innings and allowed four hits and four runs. He walked two and K’d two.

In his previous start, Kaminska had a rough go the first 1.2 innings and suffered the losing decision in Michigan’s 8-6 win.

Kaminska had surged into the season on fire in his first six appearances, recording five-straight wins and a 2.06 earned run average. But, since he has suffered three-straight losses and seen his ERA increase to 4.53. He had to wait 14 days between his last two starts.

EMMA SHELLEY

(Bartlesville)

Central Oklahoma women’s golf

During the first two rounds of the MIAA tourney, Shelley stood in 38th place with a plus-24 score. But, she improved the second round by eight strokes.

Central Oklahoma owned sixth place through two rounds.

MARY PATTISON

(Bartlesville)

Lee softball

Pattison has made four pitching appearances, worked 6.0 innings, walked nine and struck out four.
