Apple Valley’s Brady Fonville is the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

There were 27,538 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll winner.

Apple Valley’s Brady Fonville ended with 49.07% of total votes casted by Daily Press readers.

The star golfer received 13,514 votes, beating out seven other high school athletes from across the High Desert.

To earn a spot on this week’s ballot, Brady was one of three golfers from the High Desert to qualify for the CIF-Southern Section Individual Finals at Temecula Creek Golf Course, after shooting a 66 on May 6. Brady’s performance tied him atop the leaderboard after he birdied the final hole of the day at Bear Valley Country Club.

In the voting, Brady beat out Riverside Prep’s Liliana Cazares, who ended with 36.92% at 10,166 total votes.

The nominees were selected based on performances between May 6 to 11.

Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.

  • How long have you been playing your sport and how did you get started: I’ve been playing golf for five years. I had injuries from another sport and golf was the only thing I could do.

  • What do you like most about your sport: I like that you have to be accountable in golf. You can’t rely on someone else.

  • What’s your most memorable sports moment: Winning the Mojave River League title this year and playing really good.

  • If you could be someone else for a day, who would it be and why: I don’t think I would want to be someone, but I would spend a day golfing with Scottie Scheffler.

  • Someone hands you $1 million, how would you spend it: If I had one million dollars I would spend it on golf equipment and fishing gear.

  • Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world and why: If I could travel anywhere I would go to Scotland, the home of golf.

  • If you had an extra hour every day, how would you spend it: Trying to get better at the game I love.

  • What superpower do you wish you had: My superpower would be being able to play a perfect round of golf every time.
