Antonio Smith says he was joking about Patriots spying

Antonio Smith said he never intended for his comments about the Patriots spying on the Texans to be taken to heart.

Clarifying his initial remarks, which indicated the Patriots were spying on the Texans based on their ability to figure out what the defense was trying to do, were made in jest.

“I didn’t accuse them of beating us with cheating," Smith told reporters, via the Houston Chronicle. "Come on, don’t you have a sense of humor? Though it may be something I was curious about it, I wasn’t thinking they spied on us or they were cheating. Half the stuff I say is spontaneous and witty, and I don’t think anything else about it. I’m sorry I said the word spying. I was joking and having fun with it.”
