Anglemyer's Academy piles up more trophies

CONSTANTINE — The Anglemyer Academy is at it again. Building a winning tradition was not easy, but the Academy has continued to pile up the trophies.

In their most recent tournament held in Elkhart, the Tae Kwon Do Academy recorded 36 combined first, second or third place finishes at the challenge. Grand Master Cindy Anglemyer said five of her students earned 12 of the first-place finishes by winning in all the divisions they were challenged.

"Form, point and some did full contact Olympic sparring as well," she said. "Some of our students were challenged with other students much higher than their rank due to no one in their divisions and they still fared well with some even winning the division."

Anglemyer's is the big white barn with the red roof as you're heading into Constantine. There has been a long-standing option of having the first week free for new students looking for the challenge. Classes run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 - 7:30 p.m. and range in all ages.

The group trains together as one collective unit during the class times. Currently, there are 11 qualified Black Belt instructors on site ranging from first to eighth degree.

At Elkhart, earning at least one first place was Carter Wicket (Black Belt), Ashlyn Michalek (brown belt), Kirsten Chupp (sixth green), Laurel Chupp (sixth green), Jana Chupp (sixth green), Josie Binkley (sixth green), Matthew Cross (sixth green), Alex Steffel (sixth green), Tiffany Steffel (seventh yellow), Sierra Jackson (ninth white), Grant Michalek (third gup blue) and Kelvin Williams (eighth gup yellow).

Evelyn Steffen (sixth green), Steve Steffel (seventh yellow) and Hannah Jackson (ninth white) each earned at least one second-place finish.

The Academy will also be hosting an upcoming challenge. It will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Doors to the facility open at 1 p.m. and it is open to the public. There is a $5 charge to watch the festivities.
