Amid Saint Louis rumors, Josh Schertz says he'll 'try to have a decision by the weekend.'

Indiana State's magical season ended in heartbreak Thursday night as Seton Hall closed the game on a 9-0 run to win the NIT championship, 79-77, at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Is it the end of Josh Schertz's run at ISU?

Schertz, who was named Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year given to the nation's top mid-major coach, has been heavily linked with the vacant Saint Louis job.

"I’ll try to have a decision by the weekend, for sure, on what’s going on," Schertz said after Thursday's loss. "It’s been a great run, and I don’t want to leave anybody twisting in the wind more than they already have been. So, I'll get to that, but tonight is not the time. And that's why I didn't want to do it during the season. It's too emotional, there are too many things pulling at you. I won't have a chance to decompress, turn my phone off and sit down to think about what's best for me, and certainly these guys will all have decisions to make as well."

In his third season in Terre Haute, Schertz led the Sycamores to a 32-7 record, one win shy of the program record, and won the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title.

He reportedly turned down approaches from Louisville earlier this offseason, but could likely quadruple his salary with a move to Saint Louis.

On Tuesday night, after ISU's NIT semifinal win over Utah, Schertz told IndyStar's Gregg Doyel on the coaching rumors:

“I never, ever talk about a job other than the one I have, but I know that’s on everybody’s mind. The reality is, I’m going to take a day when the season’s over, make a decision, and everybody we’ve communicated with knows that’s kind of the plan of it. I know everybody’s speculating, but at the end of the day we’ll finish the season and obviously play to Thursday — which I’m looking forward to — and then take a day. I don’t want to make an emotional decision. I’m going to take a day and lock in on what I want to do and then decide what’s best.”
