Altercation leads to forfeit of Division 4 district between Tekonsha and Pansophia Academy

LITCHFIELD – The Division 4 boys basketball district quarterfinal pitting Tekonsha versus Pansophia Academy held at Litchfield High School ended in quite a bit of controversy Monday night, as a fight between the two teams led to Pansophia Academy forfeiting the game with 4:27 left in the fourth quarter, giving Tekonsha the victory.

Tekonsha was leading 39-21 at the moment of the altercation, which appeared to start just after a jump ball was called after a pair of players became entangled. The ensuing skirmish saw a physical altercation between five players from both teams, leading to three ejections. The game did not continue after the incident as the two coaches met and agreed not to continue the game, leading to the Pansophia Academy forfeit.

“While we all regret the outcome and the behavior displayed by some of the players involved, we are taking necessary steps to address the situation internally. We take this very seriously and we will not tolerate that kind of unsportsmanlike behavior, that is why actions are being taken,” Pansophia Academy Athletic Director Jose Gonzalez said in a statement to The Daily Reporter.

Tekonsha Athletic Director Doug Tew echoed the sentiment in a statement that said “We take this very seriously and fighting in a sporting event is never tolerated. We are trying to deal with some of this internally and with Pansophia Academy.”
