Alabama lands QB Tyler Buchner from Notre Dame in transfer portal

The Alabama football quarterback battle just added another contender.

Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner is transferring to the Crimson Tide, he announced Thursday. He entered the portal on Tuesday after spending the spring with the Fighting Irish.

The decision reunites him with new Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees who served as Notre Dame's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach the past three seasons. Before that, Rees was the quarterbacks coach from 2017-2019.

Buchner joins Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson in the Crimson Tide quarterback battle as Nick Saban seeks to find a signal caller to replace Bryce Young. Freshmen Eli Holstein and Dylan Lonergan also fill out the quarterback room. Considering all are on scholarship, it's likely at least one transfers with the addition of Buchner.
