Alabama high school football: Guntersville runs all over Sardis in route to blowout win

SARDIS CITY — Guntersville high football scored early and often in a 55-0 blowout win over Sardis on Friday night.

The Wildcats scored on their first drive of the game before finding the end zone on four of their next five drives. They were able to do it in all facets, with big plays through the air and ground.

The Wildcats came out of half and picked up where they had left off with two touchdowns on the first two drives before an interception returned for a touchdown sealed the deal.

Major playoff implications for both teams

The win puts Guntersville back in the mix for a region crown, going into tiebreakers over Arab and Scottsboro. The tiebreakers should go into next week, but Guntersville knows it’ll have a top-3 seed and a good chance to host in the first round. Sardis is eliminated from the playoffs after dropping its last three games after a 5-1 start.

Guntersville runs all over

With Enelson Delva and Julyon Jordan both appearing in a game for the second time all season, the Wildcats racked up more than 200 yards on the ground with ease. By halftime Delva had 42 yards and a score, while Jordan had 63 yards and two scores.

At the end of the night, the Wildcats had four rushing touchdowns and are ready to deploy their two-back system into the playoffs.

Future bright at Sardis

Even though the team graduates 19 seniors, who were honored on senior night, the future is still bright for the Lions. They will return key pieces, including quarterbacks Brian Chapman and Grant Coe to go along with other starters around the field. In the first season of the BJ Brooks era, the Lions started 5-1 before faltering down the stretch. Each of their four losses came to the region opponents who made the playoffs.
