Alabama girls high school track: 30 Tuscaloosa area athletes to watch this outdoor season
Outdoor track season is underway this week across Alabama. Tuscaloosa is home to some of the top high school athletes in the state. Here are 30 of the top girls track and field athletes to watch for the upcoming outdoor season:
Aliya Stevenson
Fayette County, Freshman
Stevenson won the Class 1A-3A state indoor championship on the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.64 and finished second in the 300-meter outdoor hurdles last year.
Destiny Robinson
Fayette County, Freshman
Robinson finished second in the long jump and third in the 60-meter dash at the state indoor championships.
Katelyn Patton
Northside, Freshman
Patton ran a personal best of 21:31 in cross-country this season and has a personal best time of 6:11 in the 1,600-meter.
Emma Bennett, Aiden Sharbutt, Jenna Case
Northside
Bennett, Sharbutt, Case and Patton make up Northside's state-qualifying 1,600-meter relay group.
Emma Carmean
Northside, Junior
Carmean has achieved state-qualifying marks in both the discus and shot put. Look for her to excel in those events this season.
Izabell Bailey
Sipsey Valley, Junior
Bailey qualified for state championships in the shot put last season, finishing 11th at the event.
Lucy Guthrie
American Christian Academy, Junior
Guthrie placed second in the 800-meter at indoor state championships. She also came in ninth place at the Class 5A state cross-country meet with a time of 19:29.09.
Deja Hines
American Christian Academy, Senior
Hines placed second in the 400-meter at the 2023 4A state championship with a time of 58.50.
Karis Kelley
American Christian Academy, Senior
Kelley was the 2023 Tuscaloosa News Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Year and will focus on the 3,200-meter race this outdoor season.
Xariyah Hatchett, Jaliayah Frank, Ja'Kaelyn King, Jaliyah Coleman
Paul W. Bryant
Bryant's 800-meter relay group claimed the indoor state title with a time of 1:46.35.
Harley McNeal
Northridge, Senior
McNeal is committed to continue her track and field career at the University of North Carolina. She finished in second place at the 6A 400-meter dash with a time of 58.23.
Arri Freeman
Demopolis, Junior
Freeman finished fifth on hurdles at the AHSAA indoor state championship meet and will look to compete at state again in May.
Ciel Coma
Holy Spirit Catholic, Freshman
Coma's personal best times include 2:43 in the 800-meter and 6:18 in the 1,600-meter.
Chloe Moore
Holy Spirit Catholic, Freshman
Moore has impressed in the 400- and 800-meter, posting personal best times of 1:07 and 2:41, respectively.
Charlotte Dickson
Holy Spirit Catholic, Sophomore
Dickson is a star pole vaulter, winning state last year with a 9-foot-5 vault.
Genesis Lee
Holy Spirit Catholic, Senior
Lee excels at the javelin throw with a personal best distance of over 88 meters.
Maddie Roundtree
Holy Spirit Catholic, Freshman
Roundtree stars in the shot put and discus throw. Her career-best shot put went 24 feet, 10 inches, while her career-high on the discus is 79.5 feet.
Ella Gunnels
Lamar County, Junior
Gunnels placed second in the triple jump at the 2023 Class 2A state championships and qualified for state in the 300-meter hurdles, high jump, and long jump.
Kylee Lann
Lamar County, Senior
Lann qualified for state in the triple jump and long jump in 2022. In 2023, she qualified for the triple jump again, as well as the high jump.
Brooklyn Myers
Lamar County, Junior
Myers qualified for the 2A state championships in 2023 in both the 100- and 200-meter. Her personal records in those events are 12.89 seconds and 27.16 seconds, respectively.
Mar'Rica Trone
Central, Junior
Trone finished third in the shot put at the 6A indoor state championships with a throw of 36 feet, 3.25 inches. She also finished third in the same event at the outdoor state championships as a sophomore in 2023.
Payton Ike
Central, Junior
Ike finished 16th in the 60-meter hurdles at the 6A indoor state championships. She will compete in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles this outdoor season.
Beniyia Harris
Central, Junior
Harris placed seventh in the long jump at the 6A indoor state championships. She recorded a personal best 16-foot, 2.25-inch long jump this indoor season. Harris also qualified for the state meet in the triple jump, which is a new event for her this year.
Kylah Hill
Central, Senior
Hill finished ninth in the triple jump at the 6A state indoor championships with a mark of 33 feet, 3.75 inches.
Trinity Hood
Central, Senior
Hood will compete in many events this outdoor season, including the 300-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, high jump, and relay events.
