Alabama has another national championship to celebrate after the all-girl cheer team won the 2022 UCA Division 1A championship in Orlando on Sunday.

It is the third all-girl championship (2015, 2020) for the Crimson Tide and sixth title over for the cheer and dance program. It won co-ed titles in 1984, 2011 and 2015.

The coed cheer team took second in its division for the third time in the last six years. None of the Crimson Tide programs competed in last years competition due to COVID-19.

The dance team took sixth place in the D1A jazz competition. It was the highest finish ever for the Crimson Tide.

"After not competing last year due to COVID-19, I'm so proud of the effort and relentless attitude of our program," UA director of sprit programs Jennifer Thrasher said in a news release. "As they prepared for nationals this season, we fought through some COVID issues and, for a time, were unsure if we would be able to step out onto the mat and compete. The team never gave up hope and laid it all out there when given the opportunity. We couldn't ask for anything more than that. They trusted the coaches and each other."

Shelton State cheer team placed second in the open coed junior college division.
