Alabama baseball pitcher Luke Holman confirms back issues before LSU scratch
HOOVER — Alabama baseball starter Luke Holman discussed what went into his late scratch against LSU, a decision that has been amplified following the firing of Brad Bohannon and a gambling investigation.
"I thought I was going to start the whole day, but I had a couple of back issues. I just didn't feel good enough," Holman said after Alabama's 7-6 loss in extra innings to Florida in the SEC Tournament on Wednesday.
Holman was listed as the probable starter for the Friday matchup with LSU on April 28 but was held out with back tightness. Later it emerged that now-former head coach Brad Bohannon was linked to bets that raised "suspicious activity" in Ohio, according to the Ohio Casino Contol Commission. The Tuscaloosa News learned that Bohannon is directly linked to those bets.

Bohannon was fired on May 4, ahead of Alabama's series with then-No. 5 Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide went on to win eight of its last 10 regular-season games, with series wins over the Commodores, Texas A&M and Ole Miss.
Holman has made his last three regularly scheduled starts since the missed start, getting wins versus Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. For the season, he owns a 3.53 ERA with seven wins on the season. He has held SEC bats to a .171 average.
