AHSAA playoffs: Predictions for Gadsden area high school football second-round games

It's time for the second round of the AHSAA playoffs and 12 Gadsden area teams still remain, it's time to preview a couple of those games.

Max went 2-2 last week, missing out on the two first round upsets involving two Gadsden area teams. For the season, Max has gone 29-11. This week the Tuscaloosa News' Anna Snyder joins the fold for a couple crossover games, she has gone 32-9 on the year.

Jacksonville at Bibb County

This could be a great matchup, an underrated second round matchup. Jim Ogle and the Golden Eagles offense facing off with Jordan Leverette and the Choctaw's offense could be one of the most explosive matchups around the state. Both defenses have shown the ability to get stops when needed and that could be important in a game with who gets the last stop or has the ball last wins.

Max's pick: Jacksonville 35, Bibb County 31

Anna's pick: Bibb County wins 35-24

Geraldine at Gordo

This is another strong second round matchup, one that could decide who gets a chance to lift a Blue Map Trophy. Both teams have the potential to go on even deeper runs into the playoffs. Both teams come with explosive offenses but with varying styles, Geraldine likes to run it while Gordo likes to sling it a bit more. The Geraldine defense has been their strong suit all year.

Max's pick: Geraldine 45, Gordo 21

Anna's pick: Gordo wins 42-35

Winfield at Sylvania

Sylvania has blown out most of their competition this year, thanks to a potent rushing attack led by Aiden Parham, who is one of the top rushers in the state. Backed by the strong rushing attack and a strong defense, this one shouldn't be a tough one for the Rams, who should get back to the third round, for the second straight season.

Max's pick: Sylvania 45, Winfield 14

Anna's pick: Sylvania wins 35-28

Gadsden City vs. Hartselle

This is a revenge game for the Titans, who fell at Hartselle by three points earlier this year. The good news for Gadsden City is this round will be at home, where they have only fallen once compared to a 2-2 away record. With TJ Worthy, now the school record holder in rushing yards and touchdowns, an offense that improved through the season, this this matchup should go in favor of the Titans.

Max's pick: Gadsden City 31, Hartselle 27
