Adrian College, Siena Heights sports from Feb. 19-24

The Adrian College men's and women's hockey teams advanced to the NCHA title games next week with the men beating Aurora, 4-0, while the women beat Lake Forest, 6-1.

Zachary Heintz and Ryan Pitoscia each scored twice while Bradley Somers had two assists and Austin Clyne, Mathrew Rehding, Theo Thrun, John Kaljian and Matt Couto each had an assist.

Dershahn Stewart made 19 saves for the shutout.

The women's team got two goals from Tia Lascelle and Une Bjelland while Allie Hubenschmidt and Callie Wollschlager each scored as well.

Maya Roy had two assists while Karmen Anderson, Kaleigh Cadorette, Aileena Dopheide, Jocelin Hudanish, Saige Biddle, Gia Avalone and Zoe Lohrei each had one.

Michaela O'Brien made nine saves.

Here's how the rest of the teams faired this week:

ADRIAN

Women's Wrestling

The Bulldogs took second at the NCWWC Regionals with a score of 113.5 to trail only Tiffin (134).

Carleigh Czerneski (116 pounds) won a regional title with two pins and a tech fall while Nyla Burgess won the 155 title with two pins.

Angela LoRusso (123) and Emily Mendez (109) both took second.

Men's Basketball

The Bulldogs qualified fifth in the MIAA tournament and knocked off No. 4 Alma on the road Tuesday, 68-56.

Nick Seifert posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds while adding four assists and a steal. Darrius Welch brought a spark off the bench with 15 points, eight rebounds, one steal and an assist while Braylon Dickerson had 11 points, four rebounds, two blocks and an assist and Josh Jordan had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.

On Friday the Bulldogs gave No. 9 in the country, Trine, a scare but fell in the semifinal, 74-70.

Kendall Chrismon had 21 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist while Michael Rightnowar had 14 points and three assists.

Adrian finishes the season 8-19.

Baseball

The Bulldogs traveled south to Birmingham, Alabama where they defeated Wheaton in the opener, 9-5.

Daniel Gutierrez had an excellent start on the mound tossing five shutout innings and giving up three hits, no walks and striking out eight.

Lincoln Lipinski (Onsted) tossed two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out three. Tripp Russo tossed a shutout ninth after Ambrose Horwath (Hudson) gave up five runs, two earned, on three hits and two walks in his debut.

At the plate, the Bulldogs had 14 hits, including a 2-for-5 day from AJ Miranda with a solo home run and a 2-run shot from David Kedrow. Easton Rogers went 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI while Jakob Charles went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run and Ryan Davis went 3-for-4 with three runs.

Adrian then fell 12-5 to Birmingham Southern on Saturday with Jaxon Clark taking the loss giving up seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and no walks while striking four in four innings.

Charles went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Rogers hit a double with an RBI.

Track and Field

The Bulldogs men's team took fifth while the women placed seventh at the MIAA indoor championships.

Emme Koutz won the 800-meter run (2:16.95) while Ciara Heslet won the high jump (1.63-meters) and Cameron Overmyer won the pole vault (4.45).

Men's Lacrosse

The Bulldogs opened the season with an overtime thriller, beating Ohio Northern 12-11 in double OT.

The Polar Bears scored with 28 seconds left to force the game past regulation. It was scoreless after the first OT, but Michael Jonas netted the game-winner with 2:51 left in the second OT off an assist from Austin Selvage.

Jonas and Cameron Reed each had two goals with Jonas adding two assists. Derek Hassel had a goal and two assists while Brandon Hoerauf and Trace Tidswell (Tecumseh) each had a goal and an assist.

Eric Winegar, Jason Klein, Tyler Ristau, Riley Edwards and Jake Coakley all scored while Selvage had two assists and Sam Spangler made 15 saves.

Men's Volleyball

The Bulldogs split the weekend with sweep of Penn State-Altonna, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22, before falling to Thiel in five sets, 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 15-7.

Chase Heuer had 30 kills and four aces while Sam Landers had 27 kills and Andrew Gawrisch had 62 assists, 19 digs and five aces.

Women's Lacrosse

The Bulldogs opened play with an 18-4 loss to Ohio Northern.

Lucia Commare had three goals while Mariana Miller had the other and was assisted by Zoe Weber.

SIENA HEIGHTS

Women's Basketball

The Saints have locked up the No. 2 seed in the WHAC tournament as they beat Lawrence Tech on Tuesday, 67-47.

Jakarri Alven was the leading scoring in this one with 17 points to go with four rebounds and three assists while Kayla Hinton had 14 points, seven assists, five rebounds and a steal. E'Anna Won added 11 points, nine rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.

Men's Volleyball

The Saints fell in five sets at home to Cornerstone on Tuesday, 25-12, 25-23, 16-25, 22-25, 15-11.

Jonathan Stovring had 15 kills, eight digs, three blocks and two aces while Daniel Rua had 11 kills, eight digs, two aces and an assist and Marc Arsenault added 10 kills, seven digs, two blocks and two assists.

Zak Tucker had 42 assists, three kills, three digs, two aces and a block.

SHU on Friday defeated Goshen in three sets, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20.

Rua had 13 kills, three digs, two assists and an ace while Stovring had 11 kills, five digs, two blocks, two assists and an ace. Tucker added 41 assists, nine digs, four kills, four aces and two blocks and Jacob Kisner had 11 digs.

The Saints finished the weekend with a five-set win against Bethel, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-7, to get to 5-6 on the season.

Stovring had 12 kills, seven digs, six blocks, two assists and an ace while Rua had 10 kills, two blocks, two aces and an assist. Tucker added 32 assists, 10 digs, three kills and two blocks.

Men's Lacrosse

The Saints fell to William Penn on Saturday, 22-8.

Eric Csizmadia had four goals while Devin Plemmons had two goals and an assist while Fernando Robison (Tecumseh) and Lachlan Conway each had a goal.

Dillon Baldwin and Sean Jablonski each had an assist.

Men's Basketball

The Saints fell at Lawrence Tech on Tuesday, 92-76, in WHAC play.

Colin Nutter continued his strong season with 20 points, four assists and three rebounds while Delano Williams had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Women's Wrestling

The Saints took fifth in the MSC championships while Bo Geibe became the first SHU women's wrestler to earn All-MSC honors.

Geibe placed second in the 170-pound division.

Stefany Perez (116) and Phoenix Waters (143) took fourth while Valeria Ahumda (109) and Karlie Harlow (191) took fifth.
