Ada can't catch Bethany in district opener

Mar. 6—Bethany got rolling early and the Ada Cougars couldn't complete a comeback in an 8-5 loss to the Bronchos in a District 4A-1 baseball contest Monday at Cougar Field.

The two teams battled again Tuesday night in Blanchard. The Cougars leave town Friday to compete in the Gulf Shores Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama. That event will run through March 15.

Ada will then travel to McLoud on March 18 and host the Redskins on March 19 in a pair of district contests.

Bethany 8, Ada 5

The Bronchos galloped to a 7-1 lead before Ada rallied with a four-run volley in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Seth Flinn got the Cougars started with a one-out walk and Keith Cook slapped a single to left field. After a double steal with two outs, Hunter McDonald delivered a run-scoring hit that got Ada within 7-2.

Kyler Gaddis was then hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Sophomore Brock Boyles then ripped a pinch-hit double to center field that pushed across two runs and cut the Bethany lead to 7-5. However, that's all the damage the Cougars could do.

The Bronchos scored an error-aided run in the top of the sixth inning for the game's final tally.

The Cougars collected six hits in the contest, including a double by JD Dugan. Cook finished 1-for-2 and scored twice for the hosts.

Charlie Tolle went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs from the top of the Bethany batting order. Josh Pierce finished 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI for the visitors, while Andrew Taber went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Karter Thomas ripped a triple for the visitors.

Ada's pitchers combined for 11 walks and nine strikeouts.

Tolle earned the mound win for Bethany. He struck out eight, walked one and allowed three earned runs in five innings.
