Aaron Rodgers settles the Tom Brady GOAT debate
The Aaron Rodgers-Tom Brady respect is mutual, but only one can be the G.O.A.T. — greatest of all time.
“As a young player, I watched a ton of (Brady’s) film,” Rodgers said in a WEEI interview. “I had a great guy to watch every single day in Brett Favre, but Tommy’s been at the top of his game for a long, long time.”
Tom Brady had praised Rodgers earlier this week, calling him an inspiration.
“I watch his game, and it makes me want to get out there and practice and improve, because I think he’s so phenomenal with the way he manages himself in the pocket,” Brady said. “And his ability to throw the football is unlike anyone probably in the history of the league.”
He also went as far to say that if Rodgers was on the Patriots, he’d throw for 7,000 yards a year.
“He’s so much more talented than me,” Brady told an NFL coach, ESPN’s Ian O’Connor reported.
‘He’s got five championships’
But even with Brady’s praise, Rodgers still isn’t ready to call himself the best quarterback of all time. For the future hall-of-famer, it all comes down to rings.
“He’s got five championships,” ‘ Rodgers said. “I think that ends most discussions.”
Rodgers’ only Super Bowl win with the Green Bay Packers came in 2010. Brady has lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy five times for the New England Patriots, most recently in 2017 with a comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons.
The Packers’ quarterback went on to call Brady a unicorn for his longevity. Brady is 41 and playing in his 18th season while Rodgers is 34 in his 13th season.
“He’s an outlier,” Rodgers said. “There’s not many like him.”
The pair will face off this Sunday when the Packers play the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
