Aaron Rodgers helps Packers and their fans raise over $100,000 for Salvation Army
Aaron Rodgers may not have made an impact for the Green Bay Packers on the field the last two weeks of the regular season, but he was still a superstar off the field. He wasn’t the only one, though. Pretty much everyone connected to the Packers played a role in the team donating $106,700 to the Salvation Army.
The team held fundraising activities during the final weeks of 2017 in order to raise that amount. Fans participated in a “Give Back Day,” in which they were encouraged to donate supplies. Packers fans raised over $23,150. The Packers matched up to $15,000 of that total.
The club also made players available for autographs in exchange for donations. Over five weeks, those brought in $34,274. That’s where Rodgers came in.
Rodgers agreed to match whatever amount was raised through the autograph donations. He wound up contributing an additional $34,274 to the cause.
Combine all that together, and add up some change, and you get $106,700.
The 34-year-old Rodgers was sidelined for over half the season after breaking his collarbone. When he was out there, Rodgers was his usual self. He tossed 16 touchdowns against six interceptions in just seven starts.
Rodgers rushed back to return in Week 15, but the team lost to the Carolina Panthers, effectively ending their shot at the playoffs. Just a few days later, the team held its “Give Back Day.”
The Packers say the funds will “go toward the Salvation Army’s efforts in aiding needy families, seniors and the homeless in Green Bay.”
