Aaron Rodgers accepts pay cut, agrees to new restructured 2-year, $75 million contract with New York Jets

The New York Jets fans in the city that never sleeps can rest now. They no longer have to worry about a Gotham-sized salary cap number for quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2024.

They can center all focus on dreams of Rodgers leading them to a Super Bowl.

Rodgers confirmed to reporters at training camp Wednesday afternoon that he agreed to restructure his contract to ease some of the Jets' salary cap issues next season.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelliserio, the new two-year contract guarantees Rodgers $75 million. It's actually a five-year pact that includes two player option years to pro-rate bonus money.

To help complete a trade with the Green Bay Packers in the offseason, a hefty $58.3 roster bonus due this season to Rodgers was moved to 2024. Though that made his salary $1.165 million this season and helped the Jets add more pieces (including more former Packers), the delay of the roster bonus would have elevated his total salary next season to the absolute monster number of $107.55 million.

Rodgers will now get about $35 million less in guaranteed compensation, but the move will allow the Jets to have a more flexible payroll while the former Packers quarterback is on the New York roster.

"The team gave up significant pieces for it to just be a one-year deal," Rodgers said. "I'm while aware of that. ... Anything could happen with my body or the success we have this year, but I'm having a blast, so I really don't see this as a one-year-and-done thing."
