AAA, AA baseball teams split games at Bainbridge

Mar. 1—MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County AAA baseball team scored 15 runs in the top of the third inning to defeat the Bainbridge junior varsity team 17-1 on Thursday in Bainbridge.

The Packers AA surrendered three runs in the first inning and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bearcats.

The AAA team's victory evened its record at 3-3 as it prepares to play host to Valdosta at 5 p.m. Monday at Packer Park.

The game against the Bearcats was tied 1-1 after the first inning and the Packers took a 2-1 lead with a run in top of the second.

The 15-run outburst in the top of third, together with the Bearcats being unable to score in the bottom of the inning, ended the game on the run-rule.

Owen Bennett faced just 11 batters over the three innings.

He gave up one run and one hit and struck out nine.

His offense backed him up with 14 hits, including three each by Ethan Allegood and Rylan Howell. Allegood drove in three runs.

Davis Lightsey, Tyson Hobby and Kane Morris each had two hits.

Tyson Samples contributed a double and Jesus Vazquez had a single.

One of Hobby's hits was a triple.

Morris drove in four of the Packers 17 runs.

The AA Packers had six hits, but could push across just one second-inning run in the loss that drops their record to 0-7.

Luke Strong had two hits, including a triple. Judson Taylor also had two hits and drove in the Packers only run.

Jackson Edwards contributed a double and Wyatt Thompson added a single.

Edwards pitched four innings, giving up three runs and six hits. He also walked three batters and struck out five.

The AAA and AA teams will travel to Valdosta on Tuesday, March 5, for a doubleheader against Lowndes.
