8-man football all-state: Portland St. Patrick, Morrice have multiple players honored

Tyler Groothuis provided a boost for the Portland St. Patrick football team on special teams this fall.

And the senior was honored for the impact he made by earning 8-man football all-state recognition from the Associated Press.

Groothuis was the lone player from Greater Lansing to earn first team all-state recognition in 8-man from the Associated Press. He made 2 of 4 field goals with a long of 40 yards and the other make coming from 38 yards. Groothuis also made 30 of 34 extra points for the Shamrocks, who captured a share of a league title and finished 9-2.

Morrice running back Joel Fisher was named second team all-state.

Greater Lansing had several players earn honorable mention recognition. Those players honored included Carson City-Crystal defensive lineman Ethan Halfman, Morrice defensive lineman Travis Smith, Maple Valley linebacker Nicholas Martin and Portland St. Patrick defensive back Landon Simpson.
