Here are 8 breakout high school girls golfers who advanced to the 2023 IHSA sectionals

Illinois High School Association girls golf regionals were held across the Peoria area on Thursday.

Peoria Notre Dame and Pekin head home as regional winners with sectionals looming on Monday. The IHSA state finals will be next Friday and Saturday at two separate courses in Decatur.

Here are eight breakout golfers looking to make their mark at sectionals and advance to the state meet.

Ella Coulter, Peoria Notre Dame

The reigning Journal Star girls golfer of the year heads to the Class 1A sectional as an individual medalist. Coulter edged out teammate Mackenzie Howard by a shot, firing a 5-over-77 at Kellogg Golf Course. Her front-9, 1-over-37 included a birdie on the par-5 No. 8. She helped PND (329) claim its town regional title over Bloomington Central Catholic (337). The senior will now play at the Wolf Creek Golf Course for the Pontiac Sectional.

Morgan Grant, Illinois Valley Central

Grant heads to the Pontiac Sectional after a strong showing at the 1A PND Regional. Her 8-over 80 round at Kellogg included a birdie on the par-4 No. 11. She finished with a 4-over 40 on the back 9. The senior and Illini Prairie Conference champion, who was within three shots of the leader Coulter, looks to conquer Wolf Creek at the sectional.

Addy Heineke, Roanoke-Benson

Heineke took second at the 1A St. Bede Regional, wrapping up her round with a 15-over 88 at Spring Creek Golf Course. The senior made six pars on holes 2, 3, 9, 10, 13 and 15 to trail winner Piper Stenzel of Seneca by two shots. She makes a Pontiac Sectional appearance at Wolf Creek.

Mackenzie Howard, Peoria Notre Dame

Howard made the most of playing at Kellogg at the Irish's 1A regional. The junior was the runner-up finisher with a 6-over 78 only one stroke behind her teammate Coulter. Howard nearly had a bogey-free front 9, shooting a 5 on the par-4 fourth for a 1-over 37. Her score helped PND win its fourth successive regional, advancing to the Pontiac Sectional at Wolf Creek.

Sydney Hubner, Pekin

Hubner added to her golf resume with the Class 2A Galesburg Regional individual title as well as the team crown. Pekin (360) won the plaque by 10 strokes over Dunlap (370). The senior carded an 11-over-82 at the Lake Bracken Country Club, taking medalist honors by three strokes. Although she didn't have any birdies, Hubner parred holes 11-16 to finish a 4-over-39 on the back 9. The Mid-Illini Conference champ now plays at Ironwood Golf Club in the Normal West Sectional.

Sydney Hunt, Dunlap

Hunt made her first postseason appearance a memorable one at the 2A Galesburg Regional. The freshman was fourth with her 16-over 87 on the Lake Bracken CC course. Her day finished strong with pars on the 16th, 17th and 18th holes for her 8-over 43 on the back 9. Hunt's round helped the Eagles (370) finish second and advance to the Normal West Sectional on Ironwood.

Madi Kerns, Metamora

Kerns delivered big at the Class 2A Bradley-Bourbonnais Regional. The senior fired an 8-over 78 for a second-place finish on the SPG Green Garden Country Club. Her round included six front-9 pars for a 3-over 38 followed by pars on holes 12-16. She heads to the Normal West Sectional and a shot at Ironwood.

Morgan Robinson, Morton

A third-place individual finish at the 2A Galesburg Regional highlighted the round for Robinson, who trailed runner-up Olivia Seei of Geneseo by just one stroke. The sophomore shot a 15-over 86 at Lake Bracken CC and ended her round with a birdie on the par-4 18. The Potters (371) were also third in the team standings, coming in one shot behind second-place Dunlap (370). Robinson heads to Ironwood for the Normal West Sectional.
