5 top performers who headlined Week 2 in Boone County high school football
The top performers in Week 1 around Boone County featured a special teams star. This week, a defensive player who found the end zone highlights Week 2.
Battle, Centralia, Rock Bridge, Southern Boone and Father Tolton had standout performers Friday night, all of whom showed plenty of star power.
Here are the top performers from around Week 2 in Boone County high school football:
Chris Brown, Battle: Two scoop-and-scores in Jefferson City
The Spartans' defense was a problem Friday night, and a big reason why was defensive lineman Chris Brown. Brown returned two fumbles for touchdowns as Battle showed plenty of grit and playmaking that the Matt Herman era is capable of. The Spartans fell short, but Brown helped make Friday's tilt against Capital City a classic game to remember.
Drevyn Seamon, Rock Bridge: Three electrifying touchdowns
Rock Bridge's offense and defense combined for 66 points against Smith-Cotton. One of its dominant players was Drevyn Seamon, who scored three touchdowns, two of which went for 31 and 42 yards, and electrified an offense that never slowed down. Seamon was able to showcase that he's a home run threat as a runner and receiver.
Cullen Bennett, Centralia: A rivalry performance to remember
The Panthers made a statement with their 65-36 win over Hallsville, mainly by out-offensing a Hallsville team that has plenty of firepower. The big reason was Bennett, who scored four touchdowns and was in masterful control of the Centralia offense. Bennett threw one and rushed for three touchdowns, and his talent kept the Hallsville defense on its heels as it struggled to contain Bennett and Jessee Caballero.
Austin Evans, Southern Boone: Four-touchdown day in a blowout win
After last week, when Southern Boone couldn't hold a lead at Odessa, Austin Evans made sure that didn't happen again. Evans combined for five touchdowns, four passing and one rushing, as the Eagles blew out Mexico on the road to secure their first win. Evans was sharp, which is even more impressive considering he was on the road for the second week in a row.
Jake Ryan, Father Tolton: 3-touchdown day lifts the 'Blazers to 2-0
For the first time in program history, Father Tolton has started its season 2-0. That's because all prior Tolton teams didn't have Jake Ryan. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns, two to his brother Sam and another to Cam Lee, as the Trailblazers ran away with a second-straight blowout, shutout win. Make that six touchdowns on the year for Ryan, who is becoming one of the sharpest quarterbacks in the state.
