5 takeaways from Week 7 of Mid-Valley high school football games

The high school football season continued this week with teams in the critical late part of the season in Week 7.

There are two more weeks left in the regular season, and some big Mid-Valley matchups coming up.

Here are five key takeaways from the seventh week of high school football in the Mid-Valley.

1: North Salem bounces back against Sprague

North Salem rebounded from last week’s loss at Grants Pass by beating Sprague 47-28 on Friday.

Jamahl Wilson had five touchdown runs, Jerrik Wangler had a touchdown run, and Braxton Singleton returned an interception for a touchdown for the Vikings.

For the Olympians, Dukatti Witherspoon threw two touchdown passes — one to Landon Baldwin-Branch, and one to Izaiah Terrones — and Kenya Johnson had two touchdown runs.

With the win, North Salem is 5-2 overall and 3-2 in Special District 1.

“The key to putting the game away was to keep feeding Jamahl with Jerrik lead blocking. Coach (Jeff) Flood power football 101,” North Salem senior quarterback TC Manumaleuna said. “Coach had a great game plan and we did our best to execute. I feel good about our next two games. We just have to watch a lot of film and keep trying to elevate our game.”

North Salem next will play at 7:15 p.m. Friday at West Salem, then finish the regular season at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at South Salem.

With the loss, Sprague is now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in Special District 1.

The Olympians next will host South Salem at 7:15 p.m. Friday, then will finish the regular season at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at McNary.

2: South Salem beats Roseburg to remain unbeaten

South Salem made easy work of Roseburg, 63-7, on Friday to remain unbeaten this season.

South Salem quarterback Athan Palmateer had three touchdown passes and two touchdown runs.

Hatimu Letisi recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown for the Saxons.

Esteban Mendez had two touchdown catches, and Eli Johnson had one.

Noah Scharer, Tristan Geer and DJ James all added touchdown runs late.

The Saxons now are 7-0 overall and 5-0 in Special District 1.

South Salem next will play at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Sprague. They then finish the regular season at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at home against North Salem.

3: West Salem beats McNary for second win in a row

West Salem earned its second win a row Friday, with a 55-14 victory against McNary.

Quarterback Kaden Martirano accounted for four touchdowns — three passing and one rushing.

West Salem now is 3-4 overall and 3-2 in Special District 1, with two games left this season.

West Salem next will host North Salem at 7:15 p.m. Friday. They then finish the regular season at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Sheldon.

McNary is now 0-7 overall and 0-5 in Special District 1.

McNary next will play at 7 p.m. Friday at North Medford. They then will finish the regular season hosting Sprague at 7 p.m. Oct. 26.

4: Silverton beats McKay to remain unbeaten

Silverton remained perfect this season with a 50-14 victory Thursday over McKay.

Silverton quarterback Sawyer Teeney had three touchdown passes, and running back Brody Sullivan had three touchdowns, including one on a kickoff return.

McKay quarterback Kyrin Fuimaono threw for two touchdowns.

With the victory, the Foxes are now 7-0 both overall and in the Mid-Willamette Conference.

Silverton next will play at 7 p.m. Friday at West Albany. They then finish the regular season hosting Lebanon at 7 p.m. Oct. 27.

With the loss, McKay is now 5-2 both overall and in the Mid-Willamette Conference.

The Scots next will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Corvallis. Then they finish the regular season hosting West Albany at 7 p.m. Oct. 27.

5: Dallas falls at South Albany

Dallas suffered its third loss of the season Thursday 15-14 at South Albany.

Isaiah Mosley rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns for the Dragons.

Dallas now is 5-2 both overall and in the Mid-Willamette Conference.

The Dragons next will host Central at 7 p.m. Friday. They then finish the regular season at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Crescent Valley.
