5 ideal trade destinations for Derrick Henry

There has been some recent chatter surrounding Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry being traded from the team. If that is true, there is likely going to be a plethora of suitors for the former NFL Offensive MVP and two-time rushing leader.

Henry has been a mainstay in the Titans backfield over the past eight years. The former Alabama running back and Heisman winner has seemingly improved each season. It is very seldom that a ball carrier continues to have success as his career goes on, but Henry is an exception.

Roll Tide Wire lists five ideal trade destinations for Derrick Henry.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have been very misfortunate when it comes to the running back position. Over the years, it seems like the Ravens can not maintain a healthy backfield for an entire season. Running backs on the roster who have a history of being injured are J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill. With that being the case, it makes perfect sense to bring in a powerful rusher like Derrick Henry who has had the luxury of not having any long-term injuries.

The AFC North is up for grabs and adding someone like Henry could put the Ravens at the top of the division.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills have a potent passing attack under the tutelage of Josh Allen. There is no doubt about it. The one area that the team has struggled with is its rushing attack. In recent years, the Bills have been unable to have a feature back. Devin Singletary was the feature back but was not good enough to carry the weight in the backfield. Subsequently, the Bills parted ways with Singletary. Current Bills running backs James Cook and Latavius Murray are not your prototypical features back in the NFL. However, Derrick Henry is.

The Bills will likely be a contender for the rest of the season. With the division being more competitive than it has been in years past, it makes perfect sense to try and acquire Henry from the Titans.

Minnesota Vikings

Yes, the Vikings just made a trade to acquire former Rams running back Cam Akers. There is no denying the fact that adding Akers is a strong move for the franchise. However, he is not an RB1. As of right now, that happens to be Alexander Mattison. Through the first seven games of the Vikings’ season, Mattison has rushed for just 359 yards and zero touchdowns.

Henry has rushed for 425 yards and three touchdowns. Not to mention, Henry has the edge on both Vikings running backs as far as NFL careers are concerned. The Vikings are going to be competitors in the NFC North and could make a case for being a contender to win the NFC with Henry on their roster. To do so, they will have to acquire Henry from the Titans.

New England Patriots

The Patriots have struggled ever since Hall-of-Fame quarterback Tom Brady left the franchise in 2019. Bill Belichick’s squad has struggled mightily on offense. They have a franchise quarterback in Mac Jones. The amount of talent in the skilled position is lacking in comparison to years past. The defense is the focal point of the team at this point.

While the offense has shown strides of improvement this season, it is not enough to consider the Patriots a threat to win the AFC East or a playoff team for that matter. The backfield consists of Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott. Neither of these have done enough to be considered elite. Derrick Henry is and would provide an immediate boost in the Patriots backfield. The Patriots have a strong offensive line for Henry to run behind. It makes sense for both parties in this situation.

Carolina Panthers

At this point in his career, it would not make much sense for Derrick Henry to go to a team that is in a rebuild state. The Panthers could be one of the few exceptions. With the Panthers struggling on offense, it would make perfect sense for the front office to attempt to acquire Henry. After all, one of the weaknesses for the Panthers this season has been their rushing attack.

Miles Sanders has underachieved and Chuba Hubbard has not been the tailback that the Panthers envisioned. Therefore, it would be ideal for someone like Henry to take over the reins at running back. A trio consisting of Bryce Young, Adam Thielen, and Henry would instantly become one of the best in the NFC. Henry would bring a veteran mentality and presence to a team that desperately needs it at this point in the season.
