4th Avenue reopens in south Seattle after leaning power poles caused bridge closure

Officials shut down 4th Avenue South Monday after power poles were leaning dangerously over the 4th Avenue South bridge just south of Costco.

The bridge has since reopened.

Seattle City Light said the poles started leaning after high winds swept through the area.

The Seattle Department of Transportation shut down all northbound and southbound lanes of the road between South Dawson Street and South Industrial Way.

The closure created problems for drivers trying to get around south Seattle Monday.

Many drivers funnel onto the 4th Avenue bridge during rush hour as a detour route to get to the 1st Avenue South Bridge, due to the long-term shutdown of the West Seattle Bridge.

Power outages in the surrounding SoDo and Georgetown neighborhoods affected many traffic signals during the storm.

At 5:08 a.m. Tuesday, SDOT tweeted the bridge had reopened.
