49ers Week 1 injury report: George Kittle officially questionable

The 49ers on Friday released their Week 1 injury report after their final practice before departing to Chicago for the season opener.

Their practice participation report remained unchanged all week, but their injury status report had a little bit of a wrinkle that isn’t necessarily indicative of what the practice reports showed.

Let’s dive in:

Out

OL Daniel Brunskill (hamstring)

This is a sneaky big loss for San Francisco. He wasn’t in line to start at any of the interior OL spots, but he’s a key reserve for the 49ers who could wind up starting games this year depending on how things go with their current starting offensive line. Not having Brunskill to stabilize that unit could come back to haunt the 49ers.

Questionable

TE George Kittle (groin)

Kittle didn’t practice at all during the week, which is not a great sign for his availability Sunday, but the club felt good enough about his chances to avoid ruling him out. He’ll likely be a game-time decision, though the team could downgrade him depending on how he feels Saturday.

Not listed

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

DL Arik Armstead (knee)
LB Oren Burks (knee)
QB Jimmy Garoppolo (right shoulder)
OT Mike McGlinchey (knee)

All four of this group practiced in full all week, so it’s not a surprise they’re not on the injury report. It’s still noteworthy though that they’re unlisted because it means they didn’t suffer any setbacks during the week. They should be good to go and Garoppolo will be the QB2 heading into Chicago.
