49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu arrested after domestic violence incident

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested Monday after the San Jose Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident.

Police said an adult female reported that her boyfriend, Omenihu, pushed her to the ground during an argument that occurred at approximately 4:39 p.m. local time.

"Officers did not observe any visible physical injuries to the survivor," a release from the police department said, "she did however have a complaint of pain to her arm."

Police said officers contacted Omenihu at the scene, where he cooperated with the investigation and provided a statement. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for misdemeanor domestic violence, posted bail and was released.

Omenihu could face possible charges as the case is reviewed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. Under the NFL's personal conduct policy, a domestic violence situation could result in a six-game suspension for a first offense.

"We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information," the 49ers said in a statement.

The team will play in the NFC championship game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Omenihu played 15 snaps in the 49ers' divisional round victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Eight days earlier, he forced a key fumble in a win against the Seattle Seahawks. Omenihu had 4.5 sacks during the regular season.
