25 midseason candidates for the Register's Iowa girls basketball Player of the Year

The Iowa high school girls basketball season is already past the halfway mark, and many talented athletes are making their case to be the Des Moines Register’s Player of the Year.

Johnston and Davenport North — both with players nationally ranked by ESPN — feature multiple candidates on this list. It’s hard to ignore the dynamic duo of Divine Bourrage and Journey Houston or leave out some of the Dragons’ top contributors.

But the talent isn’t confined to just Class 5A. This list of 25 players includes athletes from all five classes of Iowa high school girls basketball.

Johnston's Amani Jenkins has averaged 14.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting over 60% from the field.
